Abstract
The method is used in metallurgy for the refining of copper by electrolysis. It helps increase the current yield, decreases the labour and electrical power and reduces the number of short-circuits. The electrolytic process is carried out using an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid and copper sulphate, which contains additives of thiurea, with the method requiring an uninterrupted measurement of the thiurea level in the electrolyte effluent, while adding such an amount of thiurea to the feed as to ensure keeping the concentration in the effluent within the 100-5000 ppb range.
