Abstract

Sterile tampon set is used for taking swabs from patients to test for bacterial infections. First and second receptacles of tubular shape are made of plastics hermetically sealed together. The fist tube contains a sterile swab of elongated shape and the second tube contains a closed reservoir for a bacterial culture medium. When the set is used, the tubes are separated, the swab is used to obtain a sample from the patient, and is then dipped into the sterile culture medium. The bacteria may then be cultured for identification processes in the usual way. The set is stored with the first tube uppermost. The joint has a neck which holes the swab. Separating the tubes breaks the seal off the culture medium reservoir.
