Abstract

An iron-complexing, pH neutral to basic compound is used as an activator, especially to shorten setting times and increasing the short and long-term strength, in a soluble salt of the carbonic-acid-containing hydraulic binders as an additive. The ferrite content of the binder should be at least 4 % wt. The iron-complexing compound is to be mixed with the binder in the dry state. A hydraulic binder of the invention preferably contains at least 3 mMol% of an iron-complexing compound and a carbonate donor in a molar ratio of between 0.3 and 4 in relation to the iron-complexing compound.
