Abstract

An air circulation and filtration module (22) is carried within a lid (24) having an inlet duct (34) which communicates with the interior chamber (54) of a toilet bowl (52). The module (22) includes a generally cylindrical filter (62) having upright outer sidewall (67) with inlet openings (69) and an upright inner sidewall (72) with outlet openings (83). The inner sidewall (72) defines a chamber (64) in which resides an impeller (95) for drawing air through the filter (62) and discharging air through an outlet duct (48) extending from the chamber (64) to an exhaust opening (39) in the lid (24). A drive motor (90) resides within the hollow hub (97) of the impeller (95). The inlet duct (34), which depends from the rear (30) of the lid (24), is moved into the space between the top surface (53) of the toilet bowl (52) and the toilet seat (23) when the lid (24) is raised to the open position.
