Abstract
A method for fitting a hydraulic system, comprising motor, pump, hydraulic reservoir and control system in an environment with explosion risk, and complying with ATEX directive 94/9/EG, has all the components mounted in a sealed enclosure (13) which is connected to a supply of non-flammable gas (31). The gas supply generates a small positive pressure, regulated by a control flap valve (38) on the enclosure. The flap valve and gas supply are controlled to maintain the positive pressure, with pressure sensors to monitor the pressure inside the enclosure.
