Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Steel electrode for arc welding.

   Electrically made welds of steel have compared to the autogenous
Welds mainly have the disadvantage of lower physical values of the welding point. The reason for this lies in the unfavorable structure of the structure caused by the welding process, which adversely affects the properties of the weld point in conjunction with the pores and discontinuities that still frequently occur.

   Since electrical welding is much more economical than autogenous welding, efforts were made to achieve higher physical values of the welding point by means of a suitable composition of the electrode and to achieve the quality characteristics of autogenous welding, but so far without success.

   We have now succeeded in finding an alloy for electrodes that enables the production of a high-quality weld that is no longer inferior to autogenous welding. In the weld metal, titanium is added in the amount of about 0.1-1.7% and, if necessary, aluminum in amounts of 0.1-1.5%. Such alloys result in a surprising improvement in the physical values of steel welds.

   Such electrodes have nothing in common with the known cast iron welding rods, since the only purpose of the addition of aluminum is that the carbon in the pig iron is precipitated in the form of graphite in order to make the welding point soft and workable.

   The significantly greater economic efficiency of electrical welding compared to gas fusion welding provides a significant advantage.
