Abstract

Métodos para aumentar el rendimiento de azucares fermentables de un forraje vegetal que incluyen utilizar plantas homocigotas para dos mutaciones brown midrib, bm1 y bm3. Los métodos también incluyen utilizar plantas homocigotas para una mutacion en un gen que resulta en una actividad reducida de deshidrogenasa de alcohol cinamílico, y una mutacion en un gen que resulta en actividad reducida de O-metiltransferasa de alcohol 5-hidroxiconiferaldehído/5-hidroxiconiferilo. Los métodos también incluyen la utilizacion de plantas transgénicas que tienen una actividad reducida de deshidrogenasa de alcohol cinamílico y una actividad reducida de O-metiltransferasa de alcohol 5-hidroxiconiferaldehído/ 5-hidroxiconiferilo en comparacion con plantas de tipo salvaje.
