Abstract

Una solución que comprende ácido isoftálico y un glicol donde dicho ácido isoftálico es sustancialmente soluble en dicho glicol y tiene 75% en mol a 95% en mol, de su grupo carboxílico esterificado por dicho glicol. También se describe el proceso para preparar dicha solución, que comprende la combinación de un glicol y ácido isoftálico para formar una mezcla, el calentamiento de dicha mezcla bajo la condición suficiente para disolver sustancialmente dicho ácido isoftálico para producir una solución sustancialmente soluble en donde dicho ácido isoftálico tiene un 75% en mol a 95% en mol de su grupo carboxílico esterificado por dicho glicol; y opcionalmente el enfriamiento de dicha solución a una temperatura sustancialmente más baja que la temperatura para disolver sustancialmente dicho ácido isoftálico. También se revela un proceso para producir un copolímero que comprende el contacto, opcionalmente en presencia de un compuesto de fósforo, de un compuesto carbonilo como por ejemplo ácido tereftálico y un segundo glicol para formar un copolímero. Como los poliésteres pueden ser modificados mediante el agregado de un co-monómero tal como el ácido isoftálico, la solución puede usarse para incorporar dicho ácido isoftálico en un poliéster para resinas de botellas y fibras
