Abstract

Una zapata de freno compuesta para usar en un vehículo ferroviario de carga, para reacondicionar una superficie de rodadura de una rueda de dichovehículo ferroviario de carga con la finalidad de reducir la cantidad de ruido y polvo generadosd urante la aplicacion del freno. La zapata de freno compuestaincluye una superficie de frenado que tiene una configuracion predeterminada y un área de superficie predeterminada. La zapata de freno compuesta consisteen un material de friccion deun primer tipo de composicion que se extiende sobre toda el área de superficie de dicha zapata de freno compuesta. Unmaterial de friccion de un segundo tipo de composicion, consistente generalmente de un material abrasivo cerámicocon pr opiedades abrasivassuperiores a las del material de friccion del primer tipo de composicion, que está formado como inserto discreto, que tiene una forma predeterminada y estámoldeado dentro de dicho material de friccion del primer tipo decomposici on. El segundo tipo de composicion de material de friccion está inicialmentecompletamente embutido dentro de dicho material de friccion del primer tipo de composicion siendo expuesto incrementalmente a medida que dicho materialdefriccion del p rimer tipo de composicion se desgasta debido a la vinculacion friccional durante operaciones de frenado normales.
