Dr hab. Michal Moch, Associate Professor of IMOC PAS
Head of the Department of Islamic Civilization and Associate Professor at the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Polish Academy of Sciences (IMOC PAS). An Arabist specialized in cultural and literary studies. Leader of the scientific projects: “Cairo Music Scene(s) Since 2011: Between Political Activism and Cultural Change” (2021–2024) and “Nasr Abu Zayd – Rethinking the Islamic Thought” (2014–17), funded by the National Science Centre in Poland. Associate Professor (until 2021) at the Institute of Cultural Studies, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Main research interests: contemporary Arab liberal thought (e.g. the works and ideas of Nasr Abu Zayd); popular culture in Asia and Africa (especially contemporary Arabic music); evolution of pan-Arabism; collective identities of Christian groups in the Arab countries. His research combines an Arabic philological background with the methods of contemporary social sciences.
