Tiny book earrings work in progress, take one. Jan 2025.
Most mini books you see (e.g. for sale very cheap on etsy) have taken the easy route and made their spines with glue, if they have pages at all. I am ridiculous and like making my own life difficult so I stitched these books like a normal full-size sewn binding. You can see the folded signatures in the second photo! I think I’ll have to make these entirely with paper covers if I want to get the little hinges right next time.
Papercraft commission of Misaki and Hikaru from Angelic Layer! Making Hikaru was a fun challenge - it had been several years since I’d made a figure that tiny, and I was eager to see how much I’d improved since my last attempt (at least, I hoped I’d improved). And it was tricky, but I’m really pleased with how she came out! I was able to get way more detail onto her than I would have a few years ago.
This one’s not a book rec, but we wanted to take a second to brag on our Highland Branch janitor, Lynne. She makes these cake sculptures out of brick and asphalt!
These are on display right now at Highland Branch - if you’re in the area, stop by for a closer look (but please don’t taste!)
Thunderbolts (2016), No. 7 Variant Cover by Marco Checchetto
a Marvel Trumps Hate ( @marveltrumpshate ) 2021 commission created with embroidery floss, watercolors, fabric, and fine glitter paint on aida cloth in a 10" bamboo hoop frame
A lot of life happened between the commission date and now, but I’m very proud of how this turned out, and I know that 2021 Rebecca wouldn’t have been able to create this, so the time was worth it. (No offense 2021 Rebecca, we’ve just grown as an artist.)
y'all said such kind words about my dad’s crewel work so here are more pictures!
These are before he started putting himself and Addie (the doggo) into each one. I think my favorite is the one with the lavender fields but I’m also a big fan of the one with the stripey rocks =D
All my other tiny book charms except my first one were intended as gifts, and I decided it was about time to make one with words for myself. It includes some of my favorite odds and ends, including some poems, short stories, excerpts from novels. I nicknamed the project The Golden Key after the first story I picked, a fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm collection.
my mom embroidered my brother’s DJing controller for a quilt she’s making him and it’s the coolest thing i’ve ever seen (avocado for scale)
my mom loves seeing all the nice comments this has gotten, even the ones with expletives lol. but when she saw this one, she teared up and said “yes that’s it” :)
my mom is making a quilt for my brother and one of the squares is his Suzuki Sidekick
the tires and snorkel and camo hood are all stunning details, but my favorite thing is that she included the driver’s door “sidekick” badge that my brother altered to say “SIIICK”
showed my mom all ur nice comments tonight and she gave me a peek at some other squares, including this one of my bro’s motorcycle (an electric tenere)
she showed me the one she’s currently working on and it’s unbelievable, you all are gonna go insane when you see it
Alisa Shea, ‘A Feminine Touch’, 2021 Watercolour on paper, 35 x 50cm
What the fuck do you mean watercolour on paper
WHAT
Her entire gallery is half-filled with things that look like photos, and half with things that look like very realistic non-watercolor paintings. WHAT.
NASA Inspires Your Crafty Creations for World Embroidery Day
It’s amazing what you can do with a little needle and thread! For #WorldEmbroideryDay, we asked what NASA imagery inspired you. You responded with a variety of embroidered creations, highlighting our different areas of study.
Wendy Edwards, a project coordinator with Earth Science Data Systems at NASA, created this embroidered piece inspired by Webb’s Carina Nebula image. Captured in infrared light, this image revealed for the first time previously invisible areas of star birth. Credit: Wendy Edwards, NASA. Pattern credit: Clare Bray, Climbing Goat Designs
Aug 2023, bookbinding of The Silent Isle Imbowers by Tharkuun.
I’m sooo so so pleased to finally share this! I have been actively working on this for many months and waited until Tharkuun received her copy before posting so the final result would be a surprise.
