The real challenge for organizations competing in Knowledge Economy is not just to store and retrieve data or information more efficiently, but the fundamental issue is to increase value creation from the Knowledge Assets present in organizations. Hiring the best brains available in the world and installing the most modern computer equipment would not ensure an innovative organization.
The study uses concepts from cybernetics and epistemology to present a model on voluntary knowledge sharing at individual, group and organization levels, elaborating the need to manage knowledge workers differently to obtain high performance.
The model developed should help analyze low performance of knowledge organizations and provide directions for developing a new generation of software. The study should be especially useful for students and researchers in management sciences domain, professionals in Organizational Development, and Software Engineers working on knowledge based software.

Partial molar volumes, V0, of six drugs, mostly anaesthetics, viz., cinchocaine HCl, lidocaine HCl, mepivacaine HCl, procaine HCl, propranolol HCl, tetracaine HCl, in water and ethanol, calculated from precision densities obtained at 35 °C from a vibrating tube densitometer, are reported in this work. The data represent the smaller volumes of drug molecules in ethanol than in water. Volume contribution of hydrochloride part were calculated and excluded from V0 to assess the volume of free base component of the solutes. Volumes of free bases were also found smaller in ethanol, although much closer to those in water. The differences in volumes are interpreted as due to hydrophobicity of solutes. Relative hydrophobicities were estimated from volumes of transfer from aqueous to organic media. Correlation of V0 with van der Waal volumes are also reported. The hydrophobicity of these compounds is proposed to play a key role in the resulting drug action. Possible mechanism of drug binding ...

This study develops a structural model linking corporate governance, intellectual capital efficiency and financial performance then verifies it through structural equation modeling based on partial least square. Corporate governance has been conceptualized and measured through chief executive officer’s duality, ratio of non executive directors, directors’ ownership, executives’ remuneration and number of shareholders. Intellectual capital efficiency is computed through Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC TM ), and financial performance is represented through return on investment, return on equity and net profit after tax. The study reveals and determines the existence of critical structural relationship among corporate governance, intellectual capital efficiency and financial performance. The study concludes that corporate governance does not improve financial performance directly; rather corporate governors can enhance it significantly through exploiting intellectual capital...

Importance of intellectual capital (IC) has captured the attention of researchers and business enterprises in the free market era. IC has been widely recognized as a critical tool to run the business successfully in a highly competitive environment. Various models have been introduced to measure the numerous facets of IC, i.e. the Skandia Navigator, Tobin's Q, and value ad d ed intellectual coefficient (VAIC). The aim of this study is to examine the relat io n s hip between intellectual capital an d return on investment (ROI) using the VAIC developed by Ante Pulic (1998). Seven-year data set for Lahore Stock Exchange In d e x companies (LSE-25) was obtained from audited financial reports , and used to calculate human capital, structural capital, and capital-employed efficiency of companies related to different industrial sectors. The results obtained using multiple regression analysis support the argument that IC efficiency contributes significantly to ROI of an organization. Pr...

Globally Networked businesses are prominent features of Globalization; the new era is redefining trade routes based on "digital integration" of trading partners. A map that is not based on traditional factor like physical proximity of the trading countries but one that is dependent on business process synchronization and digital integration of the trading partners. The paper discusses the transformations that are taking place in business model and its subsequent influence on employment and job nature. Particularly in context with increased usage of information and communication technology (ICT) across the globe. The primary objective is to comprehend the prospects of new job environment/opportunities that could be created in the developing countries by Globalization. The study suggests that new category of jobs potential does exist for developing countries in the era of digital economy. Benefits from ICT development and prospective jobs can be gained only if developing cou...

As the businesses move towards complex and globally integrated scenario, active innovation is becoming vital for the survival of organizations. Knowledge-base in society in the form of discussion groups, communities of practices, think tanks and universities can be used as a valuable resource for generating new ideas or innovative views on complex problems. The paper views the problem from action research perspectives and presents a conceptual model for leveraging innovation by developing linkages between academics, practitioners and decision makers, with the help of a suggestion system in cyber space.

Mountainous roads where probability of land sliding exists, causes hurdles not only in the traffic flow but generate various traffic problems in the form of congestion, high accidents rate and wastage of time. The purpose of this paper is to minimize traffic congestion and wait time of the vehicles. Obstacle management is analyzed in Vehicular Adhoc Network and a mechanism is devised by using a cooperative game approach. Conflict between vehicles has been taken into consideration on one of the roads of mountainous area and two vehicles are considered to play the game. Possible actions, information set and strategies have been defined and payoffs are calculated. Finally, the outcome is achieved in the form of minimum time required for smooth flushing of the vehicles while fuzzy logic control has been used for simulation. It is found that by applying game theory in VANETs and fuzzy logic control for simulation, results can be achieved quite well in the form of minimizing traffic conge...

Utilization of natural assets to the best efficient level without changing natural balance has become a critical issue for researchers as awareness on climate change takes central position in global debate. Conventional sustainable resource management systems are based on neoclassical economic approach that ignores the nature's pattern and therefore are not actually capable of sustainable management of resources. Environmentalists are lately advocating incorporation of Permaculture as holistic approach based on ethics, equitable interaction with eco-systems to obtain sustainability. The paper integrates philosophy of permaculture with strategic management frameworks to develop a pragmatic tool for policy development. The policy design tool augments management tasks by integrating recording of natural assets, monitoring of key performance indicators and integration of sectorial policies in real time, bringing out policy as a truly live document. The tool enhances the edifice process, balancing short term viewpoints and long term development to secure renewability of natural resources.

Studies have indicated that national culture may impact the choice of who shares knowledge with whom. This paper considers the problem of tacit knowledge sharing in multi-cultural environments and the issues that relate to trust, language, and culture that impact on the choice of how tacit knowledge is shared. A study was conducted in a multi-national, international, and multi-cultural Business School to discover if the theoretical research relating to a potential tacit and thus implicit knowledge sharing archetype had validity.

Natural resources in the form of oil, gas, minerals and forests are an asset in the countries where they are found. A number of countries depend largely on exports of their natural resources, earning major portion of their foreign exchange from these exports. It is very easy for the countries to exhaust their natural resources by over utilization of these resources. Policy makers may overlook sustainability aspect of the natural assets and resultantly, design policies to obtain short term gains while ignoring long term implications. Another problem faced by countries depending heavily on export of natural resources is that their revenue generation capacities from service sector or export of other items is overlooked in policy decisions.
The paper presents a framework that may be used by policymakers for visualizing country’s natural resources as assets and developing policies for gaining maximum economic benefits from these assets, but at the same time, taking care that these assets are developed and preserved for the next generations. The paper suggests that the countries should view natural resources as critical asset and secondly, asset specific strategies should be formed for their development. It is emphasized that these asset specific strategies should be designed in such a manner as they do not work against one another and are aligned with the overall economic plan of the country.

Review of economic history illustrates a number of transformations in economic “sources-of production”
and its integrated effect on social structure. The industrial revolution caused transformation of the economy from agriculture to industry, resulting in improved living
standards and development of rural communities into a metropolitan. Similarly the scientific revolution had its economic and cultural effects.
Lately, around 1998/99, the concept of Knowledge as a source of economic development gained popularity, giving rise to the term “Knowledge Based Economies”. These economies consider Knowledge as the most important factor for a competitive environment, for the countries competing against countries or firms against firms and teams against teams.
Transformation of an economy into Knowledge Economy includes the reorganization of firms, more efficient and dynamic capital markets, and relentless globalization. Vigorous and substantial research is being continuously conducted in developed countries to analyze different aspects of Knowledge-Based Economy. On the basis of the growing importance of
the knowledge, it may be said that only those economies could compete internationally in near future who would develop and integrate the basic ingredients of Knowledge into their
economic systems and models.
Keeping in view the lack of any serious research on the Knowledge-Based Economy in Pakistan, an extensive study is needed on this hot topic. This paper presents a brief on
development of Knowledge based organizations (KBO’s) and thus the emergence of Knowledge Economies in the global arena. Purpose of the discussion is to highlight the
theme of Knowledge Based Economies in the emerging future, and bring this critical topic in focus to the research community in Pakistan.
