The Woods
A downloadable short story
The Woods was written for a writing workshop class in the spring of 2016, at a time when I was really frustrated about the fact that I hadn't really sat down and written a short story in over a year. I often find myself unable to connect in a meaningful way to horror and supernatural stories based in Christian beliefs and experiences, and The Woods sprung out of my desire to write a psychological horror story connected to the unique experience of growing up as a Jewish kid, going to Hebrew school and Jewish day camp. The Woods is scary in parts, but it's also about coping with loss, trauma, and mental illness as a young adult, and about the friends that we leave behind as we grow up. I hope you enjoy reading it!
The Woods takes place in the same town as my other story Sapling, though both are completely standalone.

The way this story is connected to Sapling is interesting and makes me very afraid. I read this story awhile ago, but as RoAnna said in another review, it really is something that stays with you.
Super sort, effective, and eerie. Definitely something that stays with you, and perfect for scratching the emotional short horror itch.
It certainly gives me shiver, especially the significance of Elya's and Lee's resemblant way of disappearance... Through The Woods and Sapling, somehow, I kinda wish for more stories of the other denizen's life in this eerie-supernatural universe o.O
