The journal is also a member of CrossRef. The American School of Classical Studies at Athens is a research and teaching institution dedicated to the advanced study of the archaeology, art, history, philosophy, language, and literature of Greece and the Greek world. Established in 1881 by a consortium of nine American universities, the School now serves graduate students and scholars from more than 180 affiliated colleges and universities, acting as a base for research and study in Greece. As part of its mission, the School directs on going excavations in the Athenian Agora and at Corinth and sponsors all other American-led excavations and surveys on Greek soil. It is the official link between American archaeologists and classicists and the Archaeological Service of the Greek Ministry of Culture and, as such, is dedicated to the wise management of cultural resources and to the dissemination of knowledge of the classical world. Un cratere en cloche attique a figures rouges (pi. II, I-3; 12, i), actuellement conserve dans une collection privee italienne et publie recemment par Konrad Schauenburg, fait ici l'objet d'un reexamen minutieux. L'analyse du decor permet de l'attribuer au Peintre de Telos, qui faisait partie d'un groupe de peintres de vases (Groupe de Telos) actif a Athenes dans la premiere moitie du IV e siecle av. J.-C. Quant a la datation du vase, elle se situe aux environs de 380-370 av. J.-C. La scene de la face principale est discutee en detail. Elle represente le roi egyptien Bousiris essayant en vain de sacrifier Herakles. On y decele quelques elements nouveaux et, peut-etre, certaines allusions au theâtre contemporain. La tradition litteraire et iconographique de l'episode de la lutte d'Herakles contre Bousiris nous livre plusieurs versions du mythe entre le VII e siecle et le IV e siecle av. J.-C.
