Pleurotus ostreatus, vel vulgo in variis linguis basidiomycotum ostreatum,[1] est species basidiomycotorum edulium late vulgata. Victus causa in Germania primum cultum, fame secundo bello mundano saeviente,[2] nunc mercatorie per omnem orbem terrarum colitur. Cognatus est Pleuroti eryngii, qui similiter colitur. Basidiomycota ostreata etiam in industria mycoremediationis causa adhibentur. In feris Americae Septentrionalis Eurasiaeque septentrionalis circumiectis naturalibus inveniuntur.
Basidiomycota ostreata sunt unus e fungis feris maxime ab hominibus petitis, quamquam in stramento aliisque modis coli possunt. Eis est aroma benzaldehydi, odor simul amarus dulcisque perceptus, proprietas Prunorum dulcium quoque.[3]
Pleuroti ostreati lovastatinum continent, statinum quod cholesterolum deminuere solet.
Pleurotus ostreatus est unus e paucis fungis carnivoris notis.[4] Sua mycelia nematoda interficere et coquere possunt, quod modus nitrogenii consumendi putatur.
