He formerly worked for the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan and Kuomintang Chinese Nationalist Party. Alfred received his Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Johns Hopkins University, and Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Columbia University, where he studied economics and political science. He previously attended National Taiwan University as a visiting student and graduated from Stuyvesant High School in New York.
