What would you do to save his smile?

I grew up taking care of my little sisters and baby cousins, so when Yousef al-Habil messaged me from Palestine with the story of his beautiful infant son Majd, my heart broke. No family should have to protect their child without a support system, and Majd is growing up in an environment that exacerbates his already severe respiratory illness. He’s currently hospitalized in the Gaza strip, relying on an oxygen tank, but this is temporary; in order to recieve further treatment, the al-Habil family must evacuate the war zone, which is where you come in.

    In Yousef’s own words:

“I am Yousef Al-Habil. I created this campaign to help my family evacuate to a safe place, and so that I can treat my son, who has been suffering from a chest crisis since the beginning of the war in Gaza and needs urgent surgery. During this war, I lost my home, my car, and my source of income. Currently, I am homeless and without any source of income. Therefore, I hope that every living conscience will help me and donate what they can.”

The funds raised will be allocated towards:

    • Securing safe relocation for the al-Habil family away from the war zone.
    • Covering essential medical expenses for Majd’s treatment outside of Gaza.
    • Providing basic necessities and essentials during this crisis.

Yousef cannot save his son alone, and neither can I. No matter how small or large your donation, you are helping a family who needs it.

    The Fisherman’s Wife
    by Maura Stanton

The fisherman said I was his third wish.
He washed off the salt, taught me to breathe,
kick my scissory legs & doze
trembling in the sharp straw beside him.
Now he had boots, a boat, a wife with gill-
silver skin who peered at the sky for fish.
I couldn’t speak: The nets in my throat
    trapped the shiny movements of words;
the new hands, glimmering in the dark,
only stuttered like ice across his back
while I gulped for the water! the water!
needing the density of his mouth.
When I mended sails, the needle pricked
seawater from my veins; the other wives
scurried out of their clogs for the priest
who rubbed me with garlic against the devil.
A pelican dipped & angled for my eyes—
yet I couldn’t drown; the angry water
shoved me into the light, I washed inland,
shellfish clamped in my streaming hair.
The fisherman plucked leeches from my neck,
crying, “You’re the last wish!” I saw torn
boots, the boat shattered on a rock.
I dreamed I was out at sea, but the shapes
went blue, blurred, I wasn’t anything,
a chill, a wish, his wife stirring in sleep.

    Emergency! Stop..

    Save my sister Nour.🤕😞🙏🏻

    image

Nour is a mother of three children; Two daughters and a son. Her house was demolished while she was in the house. She miraculously escaped death. She suffered an injury to her right hand that completely hindered her movement! She became unable to care for her children And practicing motherhood and love for them. 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦🏡

My sister was seriously injured in her hand, and as a result of this injury, she was unable to move due to nerve damage, which completely hindered her movement. The doctors said that she needed a very complex operation and its success rate was 50%. This is unfortunate, yes! .. and her operation required a large sum of money, and the doctors said that after the operation she would undergo sessions. Physical therapy is expensive. The doctors said that she should undergo this operation as soon as possible. This means that time is not on her side 🤕😞💔.

She now needs your support by donating to her, or spreading widely. 💲🗳

Please contribute whatever you can.. Do not let Nour down!! 🥺🥺🙏🏻

    Today We Honor Lorraine Hansberry

Playwright, writer and activist Lorraine Hansberry was the first African-American female author to have a play performed on Broadway ‘A Raisin in the Sun.’ The title of the play was taken from the poem “Harlem” by Langston Hughes: “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?”

Hansberry also was the first African American playwright, the fifth woman, and the youngest playwright to win a New York Critics’ Circle award for her play.

Throughout her life she was heavily involved in civil rights. Many prominent African American social and political leaders visited the Hansberry household during Lorraine’s childhood including sociology professor W.E.B. DuBois, poet Langston Hughes, actor and political activist Paul Robeson, musician Duke Ellington and Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens.
