The main aim of the research is to develop a simulation model for manpower planning in organizations having pyramidal organizational structures. Methodology: Simulation modeling technique has been used to develop a manpower planning model. A conceptual stock and flow diagram was developed to formulate the transition probabilities and relationship between different grades. Furthermore, seven different equations of the model were developed for all grades of the workforce. In order to implement the model a software application based on the equations of the model was developed to assist HR managers to alter the factors (like accession, promotion and retirement rates) and to analyze the effects on the force growth over long term planning horizon. To test the model a hypothetical assumption was made regarding the desired structure and different scenario based simulations were generated and picked those that yielded the best results. Findings: The test results of the model were quite close...

International practicum, or international field placements, create opportunities for social work students to address global social challenges in an international setting and prepare for social work practice. The landscape of international practica in social work has evolved and shifted over the last two decades. This article reports on the findings of a literature review that was conducted to understand how international practicum has changed over time. The study established search criteria that led to the inclusion of 70 publications, 16 in the first decade (2000 to 2010) and 54 in the second decade (2011 to 2020) utilizing the web of Science and Social Work s, as well as specific searches conducted on the University of Calgary Library Database, EBSCO host, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. The results of the literature review show that there were fewer publications in the first decade and the emphasis was on understanding international practicum and field models. During the second dec...

This study investigates how perceived corporate social responsibility directly influence the job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior of employees, and indirectly influence through the mediating effect work engagement. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted to collect data from 327 students of MBA executive employed in different organizations of Lahore, Pakistan. Structural equation modeling was applied to test the hypothesized conceptual model. Results reveal that corporate social responsibility activities of the organizations increase job satisfaction and discretionary behaviors or organizational citizenship behavior among employees. CSR also increases work engagement, which, in turn, increases job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior as well. This study has shown that concerns toward CSR have increased in the business organization operating in developing countries, and employees working in those organizations are reciprocating to CSR through po...

Employee voice behavior has attained significant attention in contemporary research due to its positive consequences for both workers and employers. Drawing on the social exchange theory, this study examined the mediating role of job satisfaction and psychological empowerment on the relationship between transformational leadership and employee’s voice behavior. Data were collected through survey questionnaires by utilizing a three-wave time-lagged study design from employees from diverse private and public sector organizations in Pakistan. The parallel multiple mediation is tested through Hayes’s process macro. The results indicate that job satisfaction and psychological empowerment partially mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and employee’s voice behavior. Further analysis depicts that both job satisfaction and psychological empowerment leveraged under transformational leadership act as parallel mediators and have no statistical significant difference betw...

Water scarcity is connected to food, health and other life-security issues. More importantly, water is the most basic human need and also a key to eradicating poverty and bringing economic growth. This article focuses on how water scarcity has had a big impact on the social well-being of the people in the Makran region of Balochistan. The main purpose of this article is to help policymakers and leaders better understand the perceptions of people about how drought has impacted households in the Gwadar region. The research for this article was conducted using a qualitative research design in which in-depth semi-structured interviews were used for data collection.

Effects of IFN-γ on mammalian small intestinal ion transport were studied in vitro using incubated sheets of murine small intestine in Ussing chambers. In oxygenated standard culture medium containing hydrocortisone and antibiotics, they maintained their short-circuit current ( I sc) responses to glucose and theophylline for 48 h. Histological examination revealed a 50% diminution of villus height over 36 h but no change in crypts. Height was better maintained during a 36-h incubation of small intestine from SCID mice, suggesting a role for B or T lymphocytes in villus atrophy. Exposure of small intestine to 100 U/ml IFN-γ for 36 h decreased basal I sc by 40% and I scresponses to glucose and theophylline by ∼70%; at 1,000 U/ml for 36 h, IFN-γ inhibited these I sc responses by 90%. An inhibitor of inducible NO synthase did not reverse these effects, suggesting that they are not mediated by NO. Tissue resistance, mucosal K+ content, and epithelial morphology were not affected. Purpose This study aims to examine the associations between socioeconomic status, types of rigging (pre- polling-day and post-), politics and voting behavior, vote casting and perceptions of rigging in Pakistan’s most recent elections, and attitudes toward electoral integrity. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from students at three different universities. In all, 748 units of analysis (488 male and 260 female) recorded their responses by means of a self-structured questionnaire. Linear regression was applied to measure the associations between variables, and the reliability and validity of the scales were tested. Findings A significant relationship was found between pre-poll rigging, post-poll rigging, politics and voting behavior, socioeconomic characteristics (i.e. age, education, father’s education, background or place of residence and monthly household incomes), the perception of rigging in the last elections and attitudes toward electoral integrity. Practical imp...

This paper examines the theoretical approaches of educated people about the role of information technology in the development of education sector, with particular context of Pakistan. Quantitative (measured scale) variables and qualitative thematic variables generated from open-ended responses were analyzed by applying statistical measures, i.e. SPSS, to find out the outcomes. About 91.7% of the respondents signify information technology as

The CAAX motif at the C terminus of most monomeric GTPases is required for membrane targeting because it signals for a series of three posttranslational modifications that include isoprenylation, endoproteolytic release of the C-terminal– AAX amino acids, and carboxyl methylation of the newly exposed isoprenylcysteine. The individual contributions of these modifications to protein trafficking and function are unknown. To address this issue, we performed a series of experiments with mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) lacking Rce1 (responsible for removal of the –AAX sequence) or Icmt (responsible for carboxyl methylation of the isoprenylcysteine). In MEFs lacking Rce1 or Icmt, farnesylated Ras proteins were mislocalized. In contrast, the intracellular localizations of geranylgeranylated Rho GTPases were not perturbed. Consistent with the latter finding, RhoGDI binding and actin remodeling were normal in Rce1- and Icmt-deficient cells. Swapping geranylgeranylation for farnesylation on...

CAMPYLOBACTER jejuni is a microaerophilic, curved to spiral, gram-negative bacillus. A frequent cause of bacterial diarrhea, C jejuni also causes extraintestinal infections that include sepsis, meningitis, pneumonia, cholecystitis, peritonitis, and prostatitis. 1-3 We report a case of C jejuni urinary tract infection (UTI). Report of a Case A 6-year-old girl presented to the Hartford (Conn) Hospital pediatric ambulatory care center with a threeday history of urinary frequency and incontinence. Her urine was described as cloudy and foul smelling. She had had no episodes of diarrhea. Her medical history was significant for multiple symptomatic UTIs that began at 15 months of age. At that time, radiologic studies showed a complete ureteral duplication on the right and bilateral vesicoureteral reflux. At 4 years of age, she underwent bilateral ureteral reimplantations. After surgery, she was asymptomatic until the present episode. On physical examination, she was afebrile and appeared well. She had neither costovertebral
