Background: This study set out to translate Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale and to test its properties on a Romanian sample. Methods: The study included 502 participants. The structural validity, convergent validity, criterion validity and reliability were evaluated for the Romanian version. Results: The exploratory factor analysis highlighted six factors. The confirmatory factor analysis upheld the correctness of the six-subscale model as presenting a good fit for the 34-item version. Convergent validity was supported by the fact that the constructs included in the model correlated significantly with similar constructs evaluated using other questionnaires. In terms of criterion validity, those women who perceived fewer barriers and more cues to action and had greater self-efficacy practiced more frequent breast self-examination. α Cronbach coefficients ranged between 0.74 and 0.87 and test-retest correlation coefficients for the six subscales fell between 0.47 and 0.69. Conclu...

Early detection of breast cancer plays an essential role in reducing morbidity and mortality caused by the disease. This review is intended to summarize and outline the outcomes obtained as a result of the educational interventions focused on promoting breast cancer prevention by developing and effectively employing the ability involving breast self-examination procedure; these interventions are addressed by a series of studies centered on an individual randomization of participants and at least one control group. With that end in view, we carried out a systematic search in the PubMed and PsycInfo databases and we found 21 eligible studies which involved 5754 women. Most of these studies reported increases in breast self-examination frequency after the subjects' participation in interventions. Therefore, the conclusion of this review is that educational interventions may result in adopting new and efficient breast cancer prevention behaviors such as breast self-examination, whic...

All around the world, there is a explosion of cosmetic surgery industry, growing daily. An emerging literature indicate that the cosmetic surgery industry should be more strict about the choice who they accept for treatment. Recent studies assesing the prevalence of body dismorphic disorder (BDD), and the multiple psychological aspects of this menthal health disorder by patients seeking help and hope in plastic/esthetic surgerys and cosmetic/MI (minimally invasive) interventions. This paper examines, as suggested by recent literature, several psychological aspects of menthal illness BDD. We discuss the implication of these finding and offer direction for future research. The results shows how many symptoms are includet in this disorder and that the individuals who have BDD are considered high risk patients.Conclusion.We conclude that, all the teams involved in the cosmetic surgery industry should be more strict about the choice who they accept for treatment. The awairness of plastic/...

The purpose of the study is to offer educational information onthis new, but very hot topic, which is frequently present in oureveryday life, affecting parents and children involved in theprocess of divorce. Little is known about this phenomenon. Thisqualitative study follows the experience of parenthood for aresearch group of 20 subjects (ten mothers and ten fathers) whowere unable to have normal relationships with their children dueto the phenomenon of parental alienation. Data was collectedusing the narrative method and semi-structured interviews.Processing brought to light four main themes that dominate thelives of these parents whose children refuse all contact with them:the experience of having failed as a parent, a loss of relationshipwith the child as a result of the harsh intervention of the alienatingparent, interference by the mother-in-law to undermine theirparental role, and a feeling of hopelessness and powerlessnessarising from the perception that there are major defi...

Body appreciation and eating behavior among children has to receive a special attention in the psychological and health literature, so that the society together with the family can prevent body image impairment for children and obtain their positive body appreciation and to decrease their negative eating attitudes. . The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between child's body appreciation, their eating attitude and the importance of their parents’ educational behaviors in the context of parental marital status. In this respect, 265 children from different schools have completed psychological instruments that measure the level of body appreciation, children’s eating attitudes and they give demographic data which contain their parent’s marital status. For statistical purposes, r Pearson correlation and t Test were run. The results showed that a lower level of body appreciation correlates with a higher level of negative eating attitudes of Romanian children and no...

The purpose of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions aimed at improving the selfefficacy of cancer patients. Peer-reviewed articles included in the analysis were published between 2000 and 2018, and were selected from online databases. The keywords used for the search were self-efficacy, cancer, neoplasm, tumour, malignant, treatment, intervention, therapy. We selected the studies that meet the following conditions: (a) they had an experimental design; (b) the participants were patients diagnosed with cancer; (c) they aimed the testing of interventions focused on increasing patients’ adaptation to disease; (d) they have been published in English and subjected to a peer-review process. Interventions to improve the selfefficacy of cancer patients have a statistically significant effect (g = .43, Z = 3.304, p = .001). The result shows the effectiveness of the interventions, but the heterogeneity of the data calls for caution in their consideration.

The Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) is a self-report measure of schizotypal personality traits, but the higher-order dimensionality of its scores continues to be debated. As a contribution to this debate, we examined the psychometric properties of a Romanian translation of the SPQ. A total of 711 university students (488 women, 223 men) from Romania completed a novel translation of the SPQ alongside measures of quality of life, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. Confirmatory factor analysis suggested that a 4-factor model of SPQ scores had better fit to the data than alternative models. The 4-factor model also demonstrated partial measurement invariance across sex, although sex differences on domain scores were negligible (ηp2 = 0.01–0.02). Romanian SPQ scores evidenced adequate construct and concurrent validity vis-a-vis quality of life, satisfaction with life, and self-esteem. Our results provide support for a 4-factor conceptualisation of SPQ scores in a hitherto neg...

Background While the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ; Raine, 1991) is an established measure of self-reported schizotypy, the higher-order structure of its ratings has continued to be debated in numerous translations. Here, we examined the psychometric properties of a Romanian translation of the SPQ and assessed associations with quality of life, self-esteem, and satisfaction with life. Methods In total, 711 university students (488 women, 223 men) from Romania completed a novel translation of the SPQ online alongside measures of quality of life, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. All participants indicated no immediate family history relating to psychosis. Results Using confirmatory factor analysis, we suggest that a 4-dimensional model of SPQ scores had better fit to these data than alternative 3- and 4-factor models. The 4-factor model also demonstrated partial measurement invariance across sex, although sex differences on domain scores were negligible (ηp2 = .01-.02)...

We examined the psychometric properties of a Romanian translation of the 10-item Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2). A total of 453 university students from Romania completed the BAS-2, along with measures of disordered eating, self-esteem, satisfaction with life, and subjective happiness. In addition, a separate sample of university students (N=109) completed only the BAS-2 at two time-points three weeks apart. Principal-axis factor analysis indicated that BAS-2 scores had a one-dimensional factor structure in both women and men. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that this factor structure had adequate fit, but invariance across sex was not supported. Further analyses indicated that BAS-2 scores evidenced internal consistency, convergent validity, and test-retest reliability in both women and men. These results suggest that BAS-2 scores reduce to one dimension in Romanian adults, but the lack of sex invariance may indicate that the same latent construct is not being measured in...

Evidence from politically and socially stable countries in Northern Europe and the Southern Hemisphere indicates a marked decrease in the seasonality of suicide over the past two decades. Generalizabiity of this trend to societies in transition has not yet been investigated. Data for suicide by hanging in Timiş County of Romania show both a nondecrease in seasonality of suicide for the current transitional period (1990-98), relative to the last decade of the Communist regime (1980-89) and shifts in location for suicide peak and trough months. Recent decreases in the seasonality of suicide might not generalize to societies in transition, and research would improve from focusing on the "natural laboratories" these societies represent.
