This article focuses on the rationalization of perpetrators of sexual offense against women, in a form of re-analysis of data gathered from one police resort in Greater Jakarta. The article presents the data of 9 (nine) suspects who were reported to the police by their girlfriends or the family of their girlfriends. Sexual offense toward women could not be separated from the lower bargaining position of women, as well as the views of sexuality which cornering women. Marrying the victim to the perpetrator is one practice that is still popular to solve the problem, which makes the situation worse for the victim. This also spread the socialization and practices of mean and irresponsible behavior by perpetrator or potential perpetrator. Double standard views on sexuality lead to the vulnerable situation of women, and make it more difficult to fight for justice on the issue of sexual offense. The double standard is also dominating the mind of the general public and even the public official. Therefore, the Law needs to view sexuality and sexual violence in a comprehensive understanding, with gender justice perspectives which also protect children.

Deriving from basis of the social identity theory and its development, the research aimed to explore the points of exclusion and how individuals and groups perceived themselves as experiencing victimhood of social injustice. The rise of intolerance in Indonesia was alarming and threatened the diversity and inclusivity of the nation. Throughout several political milestones such as gubernatorial and presidential elections, identity had been used as one of the most efficient ways to segregate and discriminate against people belonging to different groups. Applying a qualitative approach, data were mined from two focus group discussions of university student respondents with various religious and ethnic backgrounds representing the majority and minority groups in Indonesia. Groups sessions were strictly differentiated between majority and minority representatives to minimize the risk of potential conflict. The findings suggest that both groups’ initial perceptions towards members of outg...

Belief in the availability of social support (perceived social support) was known to influence depression and health-related quality of life in SLE patients. This support becomes a psychological resource when they experience negative emotional states such as depression caused by a chronic illness such as SLE. In people whose lives are influenced by religion, such as in Indonesian culture, belief in God's help (perceived spiritual support) is an important variable that needs to be studied because it is predicted to affect patients’ health-related quality of life. This study aims to explain the relationship between perceived social support, spiritual support, and depression to health-related quality of life in a patient with SLE. This cross-sectional study was conducted from March to June 2021 towards 328 SLE patients selected using the convenient sampling technique. Data was collected through forms that are distributed online and offline. The research sample was SLE patients who ...

The research sought to find out more about the perceived changes and relationships between sexual activities, sexual satisfaction, and life satisfaction of sexually active Indonesian adults before the pandemic (February 2019 - February 2020) and during the pandemic (March 2020 - June 2020). The research applied a cross-sectional method. An online questionnaire was conducted once in June 2020 to collect the data from 1.006 samples aged 18 to 64. Analysis using paired sample t-test shows a significant decrease due to the COVID-19 pandemic in various sexual activities, including cuddling, non-penetrative sex, masturbation sex, oral sex, and penetrative sex, but not in sexting. The results also show a significant decrease in sexual and life satisfaction due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic, sexual satisfaction, and life satisfaction are positively and significantly correlated in sexually active Indonesian adults. The results of the research indicate that sex...

Religiosity in studies of sociology and psychology of religion is generally measured by using a scale constructed for a particular religious tradition. The Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CSR) developed by Huber & Huber (2012) is a religiosity measure scale that can be used by adherents of different religions. Research on religiosity in heterogeneous Indonesian society requires an instrument that can be used by various religious adherents. The purpose of this study is to translate and test the reliability and validity of CSR from English to Indonesian. The translated CRS is a 15-item version that is divided into 5 dimensions, namely ideology, knowledge, experience, public worship, and private worship. This study was conducted in 2 stages. It began with translating the English version of the CRS-15 measuring instrument into Indonesian which was carried out using the back forward translation method from Brislin (1980). The next stage was to test the psychometric appropriateness of CR...

The Rorschach test is one of the psychological tests widely used in various assessment settings, including in studies related to sexual offenses. However, such research is scarce, although the level of sexual violence in Indonesia increases yearly. Sexual violence is often associated with the sexual drives that humans have in themselves. In this case, Rorschach can provide an overview of the individual's drives, ideas, and social relationships. The current study aims to find the personality profiles of sex offenders. Therefore, this study collected Rorschach data from 46 male sex offenders over 11 years in Depok City, Indonesia. Based on content analysis, this study found several prominent characteristics of sex offenders, such as exhibited difficulties in adaptation due to low intellectual capacity, poor emotional regulation, and empathy that other causes difficulty to build strong relationships with others. This study presents a brief treatment report of a 22-year-old-female, with a diagnosis of somatic symptom disorder and exacerbated by schizoid-avoidant personality features. Both conditions induced anxiety and many other difficulties in her functioning. Her negative self-views were the main issues that led to excessive negative emotionality, both internally (somatization) and externally (interpersonal relationship difficulties). The purpose of this case report is to illustrate an integrated treatment process consisting of cognitive-behavioral therapy and gratitude therapy. Gratitude therapy helps to alter the preoccupation of negative perspectives. Conclusions on the effectiveness of treatment were interpreted with an eye on the study’s methodological limitations.

As a conservative country, Indonesia is one of the countries that is still struggling to accept homosexuality. General view of sexual identity and sexual orientation is fixated on binary concept, where sexual identity is considered same as gender. Despite homosexuality being no longer categorized as mental disorder in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM), society still pressures the non-conforming sexual groups to change their identity and sexual orientation using conversion therapy. Conversion therapy includes any kind of therapy that intends to alter one’s sexual orientation, from homosexuality to heterosexuality. This research aims to examine the effectiveness and ethical issues of conversion therapy. Based on narrative literature study, it can be concluded that conversion therapy is not effective in changing one’s sexual orientation, especially when the request for conversion comes from others. Conversion therapy can lead to self-hatred, shame, depression, ...

Forensic psychiatrists are often sought by the court of law to provide professional opinion on specific legal matters that have a major impact on the evaluee and possibly society at large. The quality of that opinion and recommendations rely on the quality of the analysis from the assessment results conducted by the psychiatrist. However, the definition and scope of a forensic psychiatric analysis is not clear. While existing literature on forensic psychiatric analysis generally includes organizing information, identifying relevant details, and formulating a set of forensic psychiatric opinions as components, there is no explicit and unified definition of these terms and process. This lack of clarity and guidelines may hinder forensic psychiatry from achieving its goal of providing objective information to the court or other relevant parties. Forensic psychiatric analysis exhibits numerous parallels to clinical reasoning in other fields of medicine. Therefore, this review aims to el...

Premarital sexual compliance is common among women and is influenced by gender role socialization. Sexual assertiveness reduces the likelihood of engaging in sexual compliance. This study examined the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral intervention in enhancing sexual assertiveness in women who exhibited sexual compliance. This was a quasi-experimental study conducted with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. Each group consisted of five participants recruited through purposive sampling. Participants in the intervention group participated in five individual sessions, preceded by a pre-session and followed by a follow-up session. The participants in the control group were given a psychoeducation book to read and had no face-to-face sessions. Analysis was conducted through the comparison of quantitative data measured by the Indonesian version of the Sexual Assertiveness Questionnaire for Women (SAQ-W) scale. Participants’ changes in cognition and behavior before a...

With the increasing number of people invading Greater Jakarta and the ongoing improvement of infrastructure in Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek, one of the challenges faced by the community is traffic congestion. Previous studies revealed the negative impact of traffic congestion on community welfare and mental health. Thus, the present study aims to shed light on how Jabodetabek inhabitants and commuters experience, make sense, and adapt to daily traffic congestion. Data were obtained from discussions in six WhatsApp groups, which included a total of 160 respondents. The study supports the findings of previous studies, that is, traffic congestion leads to increased costs and losses and causes distress. However, the subjective perception of time management enables commuters to adapt to the situation. Nevertheless, the paper presents a novel finding: agentic adaptability of Jabodetabek commuters, which is evidenced by the ability to discover various means of adjusting to traffic conges...

Premarital sexual compliance is a common phenomenon found among women, and this tendency is influenced by the socialization of gender roles. This descriptive study examines the prevalence of and reasons for premarital sexual compliance by women in Jakarta. What surroundings are they in? What aspects of their relationships precede it? And, what are the emotional consequences of sexually compliant behavior? From 1,444 research participants obtained through accidental sampling, 391 participants have performed sexual compliance. The data for these 391 individuals was analyzed to explore and identify the intricacies of this behavior by urban women in Jakarta. Results show that gender roles and the sexual script seem to influence the occurrence of premarital sexual compliance behavior. One suggested intervention or prevention measure to eradicate this issue, among others, would be the development of a program designed to increase sexual assertiveness and to execute comprehensive sex educa...

Romantic relationship is one of the most important assets for individual’s self esteem, health and happiness or their subjective well-being (Reis, Collins, & Berscheid, 2000). By that fact, the broke-up of the romantic relationship can decrease the level of happiness and subjective well-being of individuals whether the subjective well-being itself is relatively stable for the entire life (Park & Sanchez, 2007). Sometimes an individual responded their broke-up by doing some maladaptive acts such as an endless emotional distress and obsessive act just to get back their ex-partner. The purpose of this research is to give Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) in order to enhance people’s happiness. The research design is using one group pretest-postest design. As a partisipant, young adult should be in 20 until 40 years of age. This intervention contains 5 (five) session which held once in a week and the duration is  ± 90 minutes per session. Based on the quantitative evaluation with Oxfo...

ABSTRACT The struggle of the Indonesian women’s movement to advocate for pro-women legislation during the period 1998 to 2017 has had significant achievements and lessons to demonstrate. This paper reports on how women’s groups organized themselves for policy advocacy under the Jaringan Kerja Prolegnas Pro Perempuan or JKP3 (the Network for Pro-Women National Legislation Programme) in the Reformation Era. This is based on literature review, observation and participation in various activities conducted by the network and an analysis of field notes and documents. The network faces significant obstacles and challenges from external parties, namely the government, legislators in parliament, and the general public. The obstacles and challenges faced include lack of concern and understanding about gender equality, rejection of pro-women perspectives, certain religious teachings which limit women’s rights or roles, lack of concern on the part of the bureaucracy and the political attitudes of legislators. Meanwhile, the network also faces various significant challenges of the internal dynamics among different groups. These lead us to identify significant lessons about approaches and strategies. The paper ends with discussion and recommendations for further advocacy work and research on pro-women policy advocacy.

Forgiveness in Javanese collective culture is examined by considering harmonious value (HV) a subjective value on maintaining social harmony and rumination. In Study 1, we conducted an exploratory sequential mixed-method study to develop a scale measuring HV. In-depth interviews with eight Javanese adolescents revealed three major domains of HV (Study 1a). In a second quantitative study (Study 1b), we developed items and assessed 347 Javanese adolescents in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Principal component analysis and confirmatory factor analysis supported three factors: cooperation during conflict, forbearing and resolving conflict. After confirming that the translated scales had acceptable reliability, we conducted Study 2 with 424 Javanese adolescents from both urban and village settings. Using hierarchical multiple regression, we found that HV accounted for a variance in decisional forgiveness above and beyond rumination. In addition, decisional forgiveness also accounted for variance in emotional forgiveness above and beyond rumination. In fact, HV accounted for variance in emotional forgiveness above and beyond both rumination and decisional forgiveness together. This revealed the importance of valuing social harmony in this collectivistic culture. Moreover, decisional forgiveness was also important in predicting the Javanese collectivists’ emotional forgiveness.
