Padang sebagai kota warisan Kolonial Belanda juga memiliki bangunan bersejarah yang sudah dikategorikan sebagai benda cagar budaya. Berdasarkan Keputusan Walikota Padang nomor 3 tahun 1998 terdapat sebanyak 74 buah bangunan yang masuk kagori benda cagar budaya. Dewasa ini jumlah bangunan bersejarah yang masih bertahan semakin berkurang, seiring dengan kurangnya kontrol pemerintah dan juga terjadinya bencana alam. A BSTRACT: Government policy on banning the “A rat S abulungan ” tradition in Sioban V illage, South Sipora S ubdistrict, Mentawai I sland s D istrict, West Sumatra , Indonesia has occurred since 1954. Since the banning of the “A rat Sabulungan” tradition, it eliminates the local wisdom of the Mentawai people. This is due to the policy of the Mentawai regional government , which abolished tradition. The occurrence of controversy between local governments and Mentawai people , who still carry on the tradition , w hereas for the Mentawai people, the “A rat S abulungan ” tradition is very important in the life of Mentawai people. : The g overnment Padang City in West Sumatera, Indonesia issued a Letter of Decree of Padang Mayor No.3 / 1998, setting historical buildings amounted to 74 old buildings. Nowadays, the historical buildings keep decreasing, along with the lack of government control and the occurrence of natural disasters , such as earthquakes in 2009 . It becomes an irony considering that those buildings preserving stories, cultures, art , and romantic lives. In the past, some of the old buildings were functionally exchanged, and partly it was left neglected and crumbled away.
