Wybor dokonywany miedzy konsumpcją a oszczednościami przez czlonkow gospodarstwa domowego ma zasadnicze znaczenie dla funkcjonowania ukladu gospodarczego. This paper examines the effects of pyramidal ownership. Using the sample of 162 non-financial companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange during the period 2010-2014, we verify the relation between the adoption of a pyramidal structure and company value. Specifically, we show that the link between pyramidal ownership and company value is more complex than previously thought addressing the aspect of ownership concentration and dual class shares. Our results indicate that the use of pyramids is associated with a higher value measured by Tobin’s Q, supporting the efficient monitoring hypothesis. Contrary to our expectations the combination of pyramidal ownership and dual class shares is correlated with lower Q. Finally, while the adoption of a pyramid by a majority shareholder does not impact firm value, the combination of a pyramid, ownership concentration and dual class shares is associated with higher Q. The article compares forecast quality from two atheoretical models. Neither method assumed a priori causality and forecasts were generated without additional assumptions about regressors. Tendency survey data was used within the Bayesian averaging of classical estimates (BACE) framework and dynamic factor models (DFM). Two methods for regressor selection were applied within the BACE framework: frequentist averaging (BA) and frequentist (BF) with a collinearity-corrected version of the latter (BFC). Since models yielded multiple forecasts for each period, an approach to combine them was implemented. Results were assessed using in- and out-of-sample prediction errors. Although results did not vary significantly, best performance was observed from Bayesian models adopting the frequentist approach. Streszczenie: Celem pracy jest identyfikacja profili produkcyjnych producentów rolnych w zależności od regionu, wielkości gospodarstwa i typu działalności. Profil produkcyjny jest charakteryzowany przez oszacowane parametry funkcji CES w postaci zagnieżdżonej dla wyróżnionych czynników produkcji, takich jak: kapitał, praca i ziemia. Podstawą analizy jest szacowanie funkcji produkcji dla wszystkich wariantów zagnieżdżeń czynników produkcji i wybór profilu produkcyjnego najlepiej dopasowanego do danych empirycznych. Badana jest dynamika profili produkcyjnych w latach 2004-2011 oraz podobieństwo efektów otrzymywanych z profili produkcyjnych o zróżnicowanej strukturze i substytucji czynników produkcji. A breast tumor bed localization is a challenging task for a supportive radiotherapy performed after an oncoplastic surgery. The tumor bed position can be determined by the segmented cancer contour propagation. We introduce a computationally efficient regularization method for the tumor volume contraction and a log-linear error function. The results are validated by an ability to reconstruct artificial but real-like deformation fields and a breast tumors relative volume reduction. We show that both the volume regularization and the log-linear error function improve the applied deformation field reconstruction and increase the relative tumor bed volume contraction.

Drawing upon neo-institutional theory as the perspective for research on corporate governance, we present the results of empirical studies on compliance with best practice codes. We view the declarations of conformity as the organizational response to institutional pressure and address questions on (1) how companies respond to recommendations on board best practice and (2) how these reactions evolve over time. The study employs the mixed method approach and is based on a time-series sample of conformity declarations published by 126 companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange during the period 2006–2019. Descriptive statistics indicate an increase in the number of complying companies, an improvement in compliance quality and the growing length of conformity declarations.
