Asbury Theological Seminary, Ph.D. Middlesex University/London School of Theology), a third generation Pentecostal Christian in both his maternal and fraternal heritage, began his public ministry at six years of age testifying to local congregations before his father preached. Today he has served as a missionary teacher at SEMISUD (Quito, Ecuador), and guest lecturer at Lee University. He is currently (since 2011) adjunct professor in historical and doctrinal theology at Pentecostal Theological Seminary (Cleveland, TN). He has also served as adjunct theology professor for Regent University Divinity School (Virginia Beach, VA). Dr. Richie is an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God, and Senior Pastor ((since 1998) at New Harvest Church in Knoxville, TN, where he resides with his beloved wife and partner in ministry, Sue, and their four children and four grandchildren. Until finishing his tenure (6 years) recently, he served the Society for Pentecostal Studies as Ecumenism Interest Group Leader and is still SPS Liaison to the Interfaith Relations Commission of the National Council of Churches (USA). For seven years, again until finishing his tenure, he represented Pentecostals on the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs, an ecumenical international think tank and advisory board to the World Council of Churches and a Non-Governing Organization to the United Nations. Dr. Richie is currently (for the past 5 years) on the Executive Council of the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children, an interfaith organization dedicated to interreligious cooperation for the benefit of children on a global scale. For the last ten years he has been the co-chair of the Church of God/Mennonite Church USA dialogue. Richie has published numerous articles and chapters on Christian spirituality and theology as well as a monograph, Speaking by the Spirit: A Pentecostal Model for Interreligious Dialogue (Emeth Press, 2010). His most recent book is Toward a Pentecostal Theology of Religions: Encountering Cornelius Today (CPT, 2013). Richie has traveled to over 30 countries engaging in ecumenical and interreligious activism, cooperation, and dialogue. He’s also been involved with local initiatives in Knoxville and throughout East and Middle Tennessee in collaboration with New Evangelical Partnership and Religions for Peace USA.edit

The contemporary global ecological crisis is a pressing concern for Christian theology. This essay proposes an activist approach that relates ecotheology to the classic doctrine of creation. Further, it mines the Wesleyan-Pentecostal heritage and theological trajectory for a faithful and effective approach for addressing relevant environmental concerns. Finally, it concludes with a summative reflection on the precise shape of a Wesleyan-Pentecostal ecotheology. The result is a constructive proposal for advancing Pentecostal contributions to ecotheology.

The present chapter focuses on that aspect of the enspirited world often designated as the “demonic.” Further, it pays particular attention to the interreligious context with its all-too-common temptations to demonize religious others. It argues that, whatever the ontological realities behind the various strategies of demonization of other faiths, such practices have real and harmful sociopolitical effects. In short, this is a sociopolitical thesis of sorts rather than an attempt to make any kind of normative theological assessment. That is not to say that this chapter aims to be devoid of all theological content. Doubtless, the theological bent of the author is evident. However, the primary purpose of this writing is not to submit or defend a particular theological perspective on the demonic. Rather, as stated, it presents a certain sociopolitical aspect of interreligious demonization with a view toward effecting change toward a safer, more stable society.

This chapter begins with an introduction to the main contours of Amos Yong's theological proposal, lifting up Yong's rationale for pursuing the development of a distinctively Pentecostal theology of religions through concepts foundational for its formulation, pneumatological imagination, and foundational pneumatology. Then, it discusses Yong's theology of religions in the context of key theological categories, for example, its trinitarian robustness, pneumatological basis, and Christological breadth. Next, the chapter explores its implications for ecclesiology and soteriology, noting the nuanced nature of the tasks of the churches and of Christian salvation, including implications for evangelism and dialogue. Finally, it suggests practical and pastoral applications of Yong's theology of religions. Keywords:Amos Yong; Christian theology of religions; Christological breadth; ecclesiology; pastoral applications; Pentecostal theology of religions; pneumatological basis; soteriology; trinitarian robustness

Pentecostals are not necessarily known for balance. We tend to be all or nothing kind of folks. How often I have heard Pentecostal preachers stirringly challenge listeners to be either hot or cold, warning the weary of the dire dangers of spiritual tepidity (cf. Rev 3:15-16)! And sometimes this may be precisely the best position. We do not usually admire one who cannot or will not completely commit to anything or anyone. Yet in an earlier effort I note my opinion that a “balanced approach to the religions will be neither naïve nor narrow.” Here an implication that balance is important in theology of religions is linked with a suggestion as to its possible nature.
