With the fast-growing urbanization and increased industrialization around cities in Nigeria, the quality of the air we breathe has become a paramount concern. There is a need for an accurate, real-time air quality monitoring system to monitor and evaluate the air quality we inhale. This article presents the development of a Smart Air Quality Monitoring System (SAQMS) utilizing wireless sensor technology. The SAQMS was designed to provide a comprehensive and intelligent solution for monitoring air quality index, including but not limited to particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon monoxide (CO), temperature and humidity. Leveraging wireless sensor nodes and advanced IOT, the system offers real-time data collection and analysis, enabling immediate response to environmental changes. Key features of the SAQMS include a network of wireless sensors (MQ 135 and DHT11) strategically deployed across targeted areas, data transmission through secure commun...

The corona virus disease (COVID-19) outbreak reached community transmission scenario in Nigeria less than 2 months from its first case on 27thFebruary 2020; a scenario which requires aggressive and effective contact tracing, identification, monitoring and reporting of disease trend. Surveillance is one of the working strategies in responding to community spread. Currently the COVID-19 community spread response mechanism relies on contact tracing and community testing, requiring a huge testing capacity, and its coverage is bound to be undermined by the lack of accessibility to the typical rural Nigerians. Massive testing is currently threatened by the short supply of test kits reported globally, inadequate trained manpower and limited molecular laboratories and testing centers, which cause delay in sample certification. This paints a picture of a massive unreached population in our communities and a predictable escalation of community transmission due to non- or untimely identificati...

Identification of students in higher institutions in Nigeria, coupled with the recent insecurity and impersonation in the country has exposed the need to find a way to identify each and every person in the institution and Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), Calabar, Nigeria, is not an exception. The current method of identifying students with an identification card is vulnerable to abuse. To curtail this menace, this research proposes an IOT-based attendance system using ESP32 microcontroller, 0.96” OLED display and R305 fingerprint module. During operation, the system collects the fingerprint data from multiple users through the microcontroller based on ESP32 Wi-Fi enabled module and sends it over the internet to a website. Enrollment of fingerprints is done on the server using the interfaced fingerprint sensor module. Verification of user’s fingerprint is done on the webserver while fingerprint templates are transmitted over Wi-Fi. The website user interface (UI) used ...

Healthcare is conventionally regarded as an important determinant in promoting the general health and wellbeing of peoples around the world. And in doing this, health education and information plays a major role, because it is a reliable medium and the most effective way to reduce morbidity and mortality in developing countries. We need to deliver vital messages and information to people at the lower quarter of the society, this information can be used for changing behaviors’ and practices, and this in turn can save and protect lives. It is in this context that the use of mobile phones in delivering vital health information and effective fieldwork reporting is of significance. This project seeks to use the availability of mobile service across the urban and rural areas to benefit healthcare.KEY WORDS: Health Information System; Mobile Health Information System, Medical Information

Genes are basic physical and functional unit of heredity. Genes are made up of DNA. Some genes act as instructions to make molecules called proteins. However, many genes do not code for proteins. Gene Mutation refers to modification of gene’s DNA sequence. Mutation of genes can vary within a genome and between genomes. Mutations range in size; they can affect anywhere from a single DNA building block (base pair) to a large segment of a chromosome that includes multiple genes. Because mutation is one of the fundamental forces of evolution, this work looked into the various computer software tools that can be used for genetic mutation analysis. These applications were reviewed stating the OS platform it depends on, the nature and format of data it accept, the input and output from these software tools and urls were they can be found were also stated. Keywords— gene, genome, mutation, software, tool, analysis, DNA, chromosome

This paper identifies the need to make Health Information more accessible to a greater number of Nigerians, irrespective of location dependent considerations, such as urban or rural residents. The paper identifies the mobile phone, working in tandem with other information and communications devices as facilitators to achieve our purpose. The choice of mobile phones is motivated by the ubiquitous status which they are rapidly assuming in Nigeria, where ownership is spread across every strata of the society. The methodology adopted in the paper is to explore the relevant literature for documents detailing various levels of implementations of mobile phones applications in health information dissemination. The review is highly revealing. And based on the expositions, this paper proffers recommendations on mHealth activities, which are trending in other climes that should be developed for Nigerians to benefit from. If the recommendations are adopted, it is our position that it will impro...
