Purpose This study aims to answer pertinent questions related to the quality of the organisational learning capability measurement model. Design/methodology/approach A time-separated design informed data collection. The organisational learning capability was exposed to classical higher-order and bifactor confirmatory factor analyses. Multigroup confirmatory factor analysis facilitated measurement invariance testing. This study assessed the predictive validity of the organisational learning capability subscales using hierarchical regression analysis. Findings This study replicated the second-order organisational learning capability model with four subscales. Bifactor modelling confirmed the multidimensionality of the organisational learning capability. The organisational learning capability was invariant between gender groups. The organisational learning capability subscales accounted for a significant variance in innovative work behaviour. Practical implications The organisational l...

Bioplastics are eco-friendly products that are not only highly bio-gradable and compositable, but also have robust rheological properties compared to fossil-based plastic products. Given the huge quantity of fossil-based plastics that are produced and consumed annually in Zimbabwe, consumers’ acceptance of these products may assist the country to smoothly transitioning from the current linear economic system (LES) towards a circular economic system (CES). The main purpose of the study was to explore factors that might influence the successful marketing of bioplastic products by Zimbabwe firms. With the aid of a structural regression equation, the study used a correlational design where quantitative data were collected from a random sample of 100 respondents. The findings show that self-identity, perceived value, cognitive biases and self-congruity were all positive and statistically significant at various levels of confidence. Zimbabwe plastic firms should consider these factors if ...

There has been extensive research on how information communication technology (ICTM) management competencies might increase operational effectiveness. This study examined the impact of management ICT on the internal operations of a business, blending resource-based view (RBV) and dynamic capabilities theory (DCT) perspectives. The analyses in the study cover ICT support for management decision-making abilities on Harare's manufacturing operational firms' performance (OPF). Sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) is a mediator in the research model to enhance the firm's performance—data from 201 managers employed by the manufacturing firm informed the findings. The research hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling (SEM) that was analysed using SPSS version 24 and AMOS version 21. The results reveal that investment in ICT should be linked to firms' core competencies to maximise firms' value. The results also indicate that effective management of I...

Numerous reports on systemic public corruption, fraud, illicit financial outflows, and corporate mis-governance in Zimbabwe’s public sector have brought the effectiveness of the country’s supreme audit institution under intensive public foci. There are now urgent calls for the country’s supreme audit institution to go beyond the traditional compliance-oriented cynosure by addressing challenges in the public sector that are encumbering national development. The aim of the paper is to interrogate with the aid of structural equation modelling the relationship among an effective supreme auditing institution, national development, and sound public finance management. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire administered on a multi-stage cluster sample of 210 public officials in Zimbabwe’s public sector. We found the relationship among three statistically significant at 99% level of confidence implying that increasing audit effectiveness has both feedback and feedforward effect...

Religious tourism and pilgrimage are theocentric terms that refer to people visiting holy and sacred shrines seeking; God’s indulgence and absolution of sins in the afterlife, spiritual and physical healing, regeneration of the soul and spirit, acquiring new religious and cultural experiences, a shorter stay in the purgatory and a transcendence of one’s former frame of reference. Religious tourism and pilgrimage have a strong potential to: create quality employment opportunities, increase local community resilience against poverty, curtail rural flight migration, foster mutual understanding, respect, peace and harmony among tourist, pilgrims, local communities, and even countries, and importantly may contribute to rapid national growth and development. The study used a multiple paradigm approach to investigate motives for visiting ZCC Mbungo Shrine in Zimbabwe by religious tourists and pilgrims. Data was collected using representative focus group made up of 10 participants and revel...

Brand personality has evolved to be a contemporary marketing concept that breaks or make positive image through perception management in tourism destinations. This study focused on the personality of the tourists who patronise the Zimbabwe tourism destination, looking at how their personality conforms to the personality that is reflected by the tourism destination. Destination marketing organizations have a certain personality they portray to the outside world with regards to their tourists' destination, which contributes to an intention of visiting or not visiting that destination by the tourists. This study applied a QUAL to QUAN sequential mixed method, which started with a qualitative research then followed by a quantitative research. A qualitative research design helped in getting views and opinions from participants on the types of personalities they regard to be represented by most tourism destinations across the globe and contributed to the establishment of themes that w...

The paper examines the impact of foreign direct investment on export growth in Zimbabwe for the period 1980 to 2011. Foreign direct inflows in exports-oriented productivity enables the country; to ease the current pressure on balance of payment account, accumulate physical capital, complement inadequate domestic savings, create employment, augment local human capital and help conjoin the economy into the globalised village. Using the the Ordinary Least Squares method, the results showed that current period FDI, one year lagged FDI, trade openness and one year lagged exports were significant and had a positive impact on export growth. However, gross domestic product was insignificant. The study recommends that Zimbabwe creates a clement investment climate that fosters export oriented FDI inflows. Policies that enhance trade openness and export competitiveness are a prerequisite for growth of a sustainable export base.

Tax evasion is a serious developmental issue in many developing countries. Efficient tax collection is critical for the building and maintenance of public infrastructure. The purpose of the paper was to examine factors that encourage tax evasion in Zimbabwe using evidence from tax audits and theory. The findings show that tax morale, tax administration inefficiencies, taxpayer attitude, existence of shadow economy, ineffective tax audits, high marginal tax rates, corruption and lenient penalties are some of the major factors that causes tax evasion in Zimbabwe. The study recommends the adoption of policies that encourage high tax morale such as making tax design systems less complex, using tax revenues efficiently in order to encourage positive attitude and trust in the government. Stringent penalties, long jail terms, forfeiture of tax evasion rentals should be made mandatory for those caught evading and also to deter would be tax evaders. Making tax audits effective and efficient ...

When Zimbabwe abandoned its currency and adopted the multiple currency exchange rate system in 2009 which was anchored on the United States dollar, there was general consensus that dollarization was the only way the country could restore macroeconomic stability and grow the economy. Despite dollarization, the country has not been spared from major current account reversals, amplified output fluctuations in crucial economic sectors and increased volatility of key relative prices in the economy. In fact, economic growth and development has been on downward trend since dollarization. There are ample studies in empirical literature that demonstrate why countries dollarize yet few studies focus on how to de-dollarize and reintroduce own currency. The aim of this research was to review empirical studies on the cost and benefits of dollarization in emerging markets such as Zimbabwe and also to provide insights on de-dollarization strategies. The paper contributes to literature on strategie...

The study investigated the contribution of local communities to Zimbabwe tourism destination brand equity through sustainable tourism practices, with a view of developing a model. A comparative investigation of two popular resorts in Zimbabwe which are Victoria Falls and Domboshava Curves was carried out. A sequential mixed method was used to get research data. Results from in-depth interviews showed that sustainable brand equity through community involvement can be developed from the following: maintaining culture; attractive traditional villages; traditional music and dances; unique traditional dressing; provision of indigenous food and drinks; guiding tourists and provision of transport and accommodation. A further survey then produced variables that were used to construct a community based sustainable brand equity model for the study. These variables were then grouped into two that is, household activities and service provision. Household activities included: providing indigenou...

This study examines using social media to enhance business performance within the Harare Metropolitan Province of Zimbabwe. The research integrates the innovation of diffusion and technology-organization-environment frameworks to explore this phenomenon. A cross-sectional research design facilitated data acquisition via an online questionnaire administered to 938 participants operating business entities within the Harare region. SmartPLS 4.0 software enabled the analysis of data and the application of the partial least squares approach to identify the interrelationships among the measurement components. The data analysis and testing of the proposed hypotheses used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings indicate that integrating theoretical frameworks provided the determinants that insightfully examined the acceptance and utilisation of social media. The technological construct items of relative advantage, presence attributes and visibility, and interconnections and interac...
