Aluminium alloys of 5xxx series and their welded joints show good resistance to corrosion in sea water. TIG welding technique is one of the precise and fastest processes used in aerospace industries, ship industries, automobile industries, nuclear industries and marine industries. In order to optimize any process it is very essential to understand the effect of its process parameters on mechanical properties of selected substrate. On the basis of the literature reviewed it has been observed that still there are limited research studies on optimizing the process parameters of Pulsed TIG welding of AA5083-H116.

The paper presents a theoretical and experimental research activity carried out in order to investigate and improve the properties of the Al - Si Alloy, when subjected the process of joining the components with Friction Stir Welding. Hence, the impact of process parameters have great role to play in order to achieve product quality, reliability and longevity. The results obtained during the investigation highlight and permit that the selection of the right parameters of FSW that offer the best combination between the yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, necking, impact strength at low temperature, hardness and a crystalline refinement of the sorbite, in order to obtain a better behavior of the material under corrosive-environment conditions.

Friction stir welding (FSW) is the latest technology in the area of metal joining and is perhaps the most promising of all the welding processes. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has become a major joining process in the railway, aerospace, auto industries and ship building industries especially in the fabrication of aluminium alloys. This paper looks at the review, on friction stir welding process, various welding variables like tool rotation, welding speed, tool tilt angle, plunge depth and tool pin geometry, for the welding of aluminium alloys.

In this investigation, the effect of friction stir processing (FSP) parameters such as rotational... more In this investigation, the effect of friction stir processing (FSP) parameters such as rotational speed, traverse speed and plunge depth on the tensile strength of AA6063 aluminum alloy was studied. The experiments were carried out as per response surface methodology parametric design concepts to study the influence of various combinations of process parameters. Statistical optimization technique, ANOVA was used to determine the optimum levels and to find the significance of each process parameter. The results indicate that rotational speed (RS), and traverse speed (TS) are the most significant factors, followed by plunge depth (PD) in deciding the tensile strength of friction stir processed aluminum alloy. In addition, mathematical models were developed to establish relationship between different process variables and tensile strength.
