Paper discusses analysis of applying model reference adaptive control strategy for control of temperature in jacketed stirred tank heater. Perfectly mixed hot fluid is circulated in heater through the jacket. Modeling of jacketed stirred tank heateris done with energy balance equations on the vessel and on jacket fluids and same has been used for simulation. Initially Lyapunov rule technique has been applied for simulation of MRAC. Adaptive control parameter values of θ and output have been saved and used for future control strategy with soft computing. By applying adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based algorithm adaptive parameter values have again been generated. Results shows that as compared to conventional MRAC soft computing based MRAC leads to better result in several cases. Basics of Lyapunov rule based adaptive control, literature survey, dynamics of jacketed stirred tank heater and MRAC with result statistics have been presented. KEYWORDS JSTH, Lyapunov rule, ...

Handwritten character recognition is a challenging area of research. Lots of research activities in the area of character recognition are already done for Indian languages such as Hindi, Bangla, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. Literature review on handwritten character recognition indicates that in comparison with other Indian scripts research activities on Gujarati handwritten character recognition are very less.  This paper aims to bring Gujarati character recognition in attention. Recognition of isolated Gujarati handwritten characters is proposed using three different kinds of features and their fusion. Chain code based, zone based and projection profiles based features are utilized as individual features. One of the significant contribution of proposed work is towards the generation of large and representative dataset of 88,000 handwritten Gujarati characters. Experiments are carried out on this developed dataset. Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Nai...

In this paper, model reference adaptive control of fractional order system using ANFIS and CANFIS has been discussed. In this paper ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System) has been used for the MISO (Multi input single output) system and CANFIS (Coactive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System) is used for MIMO (Multi input Multi output) system. In this paper fractional order MIT rules are used to generate adaption law for MRAC. Tuning for the ANFIS and the CANFIS has been carried out by the fractional order MRAC tuning rule. Fractional order MIT rule has been used to control Fractional order system. The comparative analysis between CANFIS and ANFIS has been shown in this paper. It has been shown that the fractional order MRAC can be replaced by an appropriate neural network either in form of ANFIS or CANFIS.

Nonlinear Hybrid Dynamical Systems (NHDS) are characterized by interacting dynamics of continuous and discrete domain. Application such systems has been reported in chemical systems, manufacturing systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, telecommunication systems, automobile control and computer disk drive control. The nonlinear continuous dynamic in NHDS will change due to occurrence of some unknown discrete events. So, for identification of NHDS, it is required to classify the open loop data according to discrete events. Clustering is the process of organizing objects into groups whose members are similar in some way. A variety of algorithms have recently emerged that meet these requirements and were successfully applied to real life data mining problem. Fuzzy c-means (FCM) and k-means are commonly used partitional algorithm based on unsupervised learning methods. This paper focuses on the analysis of FCM and k-means partitional clustering methods for the single tank NHDS d...

ABSTRACT In this paper, a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation based optimal control algorithm is proposed for a bilinear system. Utilizing the Lyapunov direct method, the controller is shown to be optimal with respect to a cost functional, which includes penalty on the control effort and the system states. In the proposed algorithm, Neural Network (NN) is used to find approximate solution of HJB equation using least squares method. Proposed algorithm has been applied on bilinear systems. Necessary theoretical and simulation results are presented to validate proposed algorithm.

There are many dynamic systems that can be characterized better by using non-integer order dynamic model based on fractional calculus or, differentiation or integration. Traditional calculus is based on integer order differentiation and integration. In this paper, we have represented comparative study of different fractional order systems using different realization methods. Basic definitions of fractional calculus and fractional order dynamic systems are presented first. Additionally, different fractional order systems are introduced and commented. Numerical methods for simulating fractional order systems are given in detail. Also Discretization techniques for fractional order operators are explained in details. Both digital and analog realization methods of fractional order systems are introduced. Comparative study has been carried out for the time response analysis of fractional order system using various approximation methods. Finally, remarks on future research efforts in fractional order control are given.

ABSTRACT The Nonlinear Hybrid Dynamical Systems (NHDS) represent discrete event dynamics along with continuous dynamics. This paper is focused identification of the NHDS based on fuzzy c-means clustering approach for the open loop data classification according to its discrete dynamics. In the present work, a novel fuzzy function based selection of PWARX model algorithm applied for validation of identified parameters of the PieceWise affine Auto Regressive eXogeneous (PWARX) models which are separable and linear in the discrete space. The performance of the proposed selection method is demonstrated using the physical application.

Biometric authentication refers to the automatic identification of a person by analyzing their physiological and/or behavioral characteristics or traits. Since many physiological and behavioral characteristics are unique to an individual, biometrics provides a more reliable system of authentication than ID cards, keys, passwords, or other traditional systems. A wide variety of organizations are using automated person authentication systems to improve customer satisfaction, operating efficiency as well as to secure critical resources. Now a day an increasing number of countries including India have decided to adopt biometric systems for national security and identity theft prevention, which makes biometrics an important component in security-related applications such as: logical and physical access control, forensic investigation, IT security, identity fraud protection, and terrorist prevention or detection. Various biometric authentication techniques are available for identifying an individual by measuring fingerprint, hand, face, signature, voice or a combination of these traits. New biometric algorithms and technologies are proposed, tested, reviewed, and implemented every year. This paper aims to give a brief overview of the field of biometrics and summarize various biometric authentication techniques including its strengths and limitations.

ABSTRACT Real-time data of boiler thermal efficiency can really reflect the boiler operation condition, heat generation and heat loss. Performance of the boiler, like efficiency and evaporation ratio reduces with time, due to poor combustion, heat transfer fouling and poor operation and maintenance. Boiler efficiency can be also useful in analysis of boiler and can also be used in predictive maintenance of the boiler. How to reduce problems of the boiler efficiency real-time computations and be successful in calculating the boiler thermal efficiency on line are the main concern of operation departments of power systems. Using Heat Input-Output method plant people can evaluate quickly the efficiency of boilers using few parameters

ABSTRACT In the present paper, the analysis of a circularly polarized elliptical patch antenna using artificial neural networks is pesented. Radius of semi-major axis, feed location to the microstrip patch and the height of the dielectric substrate are taken as inputs to the neural network, while resonant frequency and return-loss are obtained as the outputs. The ANN generated results were found in close agreement with those of simulated results.

ABSTRACT In this paper, a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation based optimal control algorithm for robust controller design, is proposed for a nonlinear system. Utilizing the Lyapunov direct method, controller is shown to be optimal with respect to a cost functional that includes maximum bound on system uncertainty. Controller is continuous and requires the knowledge of the upper bound of system uncertainty. In the proposed algorithm, neural network (NN) is used to find approximate solution of HJB equation. Proposed algorithm has been applied on a nonlinear uncertain system.
