Sensory evaluation is a quantitative science in which numerical data are collected to establish lawful and specific relationships between product characteristics and human perception. Among the sensory methods available, Triangle test method was adopted. The purpose of this study was to differentiate Madhyama Paka and Khara Paka Katupila Taila with regard to smell and color. Forty pre-trained assessors were asked to identify the blindly coded sample analogous. The results were calculated using Python software and analyzed using receiver operating characteristics curve, area under curve (AUC), and d-prime (d’) with the help of sensR package in R-studio ver. 1.0.143. For both attributes, both the samples were correctly identified with a significance level of P < 0.001 and AUC of 1 and 0.999 for each set, respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that sensory analysis method efficiently discriminated the Madhyama Paka and Khara Paka Katupila Taila samples and thus can serve as a cost-...

Background:Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Efforts to improve cancer treatment through nanotechnology are at the developmental stage, and it will be gracious if the drug with anticancer property itself is a nanoparticle. Bhasma is organomineral complexes which are bioactive nanoparticles. Yashada Bhasma (incinerated processed zinc) is widely used in Ayurveda for various diseases, and there are evidence that ZnO nanoparticles are promising antitumor agent. However, no studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of Yashada Bhasma in pancreatic cancer.Materials and Methods:Two types of test drugs, Parada Marita Yashada Bhasma (PMY) and Vanaspati Jarita Marita Yashada Bhasma (JMY), were prepared as per the guidelines of pharmaceutics of Ayurveda. Particle size analyses of Yashada Bhasma and Zeta potential study was carried out initially. Further human pancreatic cancer cell line (MIA PaCa-2) study was done using in vitro sulforhodamine B assay, keeping adriamycinas control. After 48 h of incubation, antiproliferative effects were assessed. Results:JMY and adriamycin showed dose-dependent growth inhibition of cancer cells. Both Yashada Bhasma samples showed a cytostatic effect at this concentration. Conclusion:The study leads to new avenues for cancer treatment by developing such unique and highly effective bioactive nano-sized therapeutic agent.

Rasaratna Samuccaya (RRS) a 13th century C.E. alchemical treatise, authored by Vāgbhaṭa, is a useful compilation related to preparation and properties of drugs of mineral and metallic origin. This text throws light on the state of Indian expertise in the field of alchemy regarding the extraction, purification, conversion of metals/minerals into therapeutically suitable forms, various instruments developed for alchemical purposes and treatment of numerous diseases by using herbo‑mineral preparations. The present work is an attempt to summarize the key features of RRS to highlight its utility and contribution in the development of Indian alchemy. To study and summarize the important, comprehensive and specific points mentioned in RRS and to elaborate the contribution of RRS in the field of Indian alchemy. A critical review of RRS from Suratnojjvalā Hindi commentary by Ambikadatta Shastri was done and the collected information was compared with other available literature of Rasaśāstra. Research of modern science was also utilized to explore some facts mentioned by Vāgbhaṭa. RRS is a precise treatise among available ancient literature. It comprises of all eight branches of Ayurveda, although it mainly deals with therapeutic aspects of Rasaśāstra and emphasizes the use of metals and minerals in treating nearly 68 types of ailments. It contains 30 chapters, 3871 verses and detailed description of 960 formulations. Classification of metals and minerals; description of some new instruments, formulations and averting use of metals and minerals in pregnancy are the key features of RRS.

Introduction: Rasasindura (RS) is a sublimated mercurial preparation known for its use in different formulations. The efficacy of RS will enhance with the quantity of sulphur and duration of heating, hence Shadguna Rasa Sindura (SRS) (1:6 proportion of Hg:S) is said to be superior. Objective: Present study attempts to standardize mode of preparation of SRS & analyse its physico-chemical properties. Methodology: Shodhita Parada (Purified mercury) and Gandhaka (sulphur) were triturated till formation of Kajjali (black sulphide devoid of shine) and was impregnated with Aloe vera Linn. Thus formed Kajjali was placed in Kacha Kupi (glass bottle) coated with ten layers of cloth and multani mitti. Bottle was placed in Electrical Muffle Furnace (EMF) and heat was given for 168 hours with Kramagni (gradual rise in temperature). After observing all chief desired characteristics in process, bottle was sealed and allowed for sublimation and thus formed product was carefully collected. Same way ...

Rajata bhasma (incinerated silver) potentially utilized in various formulations such as Jayamangala Rasa, Mahamraganka Rasa, Lakshmivilasa Rasa, Vatagajankusha Rasa, Vijaya Parpati etc. Silver being a noble metal is said to be superior among metals after Gold. Works emphasizing on pharmaceutical standardization of Rajata Bhasma (RB) are very few. Though, standards of Rajata Bhasma prepared by Kupipakva method followed by puta (RB2) are available, comparison with direct puta (RB1) has not been found. Present study attempts to provide a comparative pharmaceutical and physico-chemical profile of RB1 & RB2. Authentic raw materials were collected and classical guidelines were followed in preparing both the samples of bhasma. pH, Ash value, Acid insoluble ash, Water soluble ash, Loss on drying, percentage of Silver and Sulphur were evaluated in both the samples. RB1fulfilled all the classical parameters of Bhasma after 17 th puta, whereas RB2 took 11 putas for the same. The physico-chemic...

Extremely diminutive published information is available on the mutagenic activity of Ayurvedic Bhasmas. Genotoxicity of few Bhasmas were reported on single maximum dose, but no reference is available on the sub-chronic level. Hence the present study was carried to generate and evaluate genotoxic potentials of Swarna Makshika Bhasma (mineral preparation) administered at therapeutic dose for 14 days. Chromosomal aberrations and abnormal sperm assay parameters were taken in this study. Cyclophosphamide (CP) was taken as positive group and results were compared. The results revealed a lack of generation of structural deformity in above parameters by tested drugs compared to CP treated group. Observed data indicate that the Bhasmas tested were non-genotoxic under the experimental conditions.
