Abstract. This paper seeks to analyze the possible relationships that begin to be established between the legalization of physical education in schools and the legitimization of the body in the school environment. The body, always present, is now made expressly evident. Historical absence will generate movements and decisions into this institution. The starting point is the idea that Physical Education as an educational discipline intentionally takes a corporeal being as a pedagogical subject, which gives him discipline sense and identity. Based on this assumption, it may be considered that this historical moment faces, in a unique manner, representations of the body and archetypes of the Physical Education Teacher deeply rooted in the society, which must undergo analysis for this fact to create a favorable atmosphere for a real change in schools. Methodology used is the bibliographic and documentary analysis, as well as the discourse analysis.

Resumen El presente trabajo se enmarca en el Proyecto de Investigacion "Cuerpo y educacion en las politicas educativas del Uruguay (1985-2005)" . En este caso, el interes principal radica en el estudio de la formacion de los profesores de Educacion Fisica y su posible tratamiento en terminos de politicas educativas. La propuesta esta centrada en la reflexion sobre las continuidades y rupturas en el discurso pedagogico de la formacion de profesores de Educacion Fisica en el periodo mencionado. Se busca indagar las formas en que se aborda la cuestion del cuerpo en los distintos Planes de Estudio del periodo abarcado (Plan 1992, su ajuste de 1996 y Plan 2004, actualmente en vigencia). The past few years have been remarkably fruitful regarding public policies related to Physical education. We believe it is important to underline two transformations: the creation of the National Public Education System and the National Public Health Care System. The scope of subjects such as Health care and Education assumed as States objectives, the debate about the necessity to transform them and the reform of the State present in the political agenda, provided fertile ground for these structural modifications to develop. This paper analyses the General Education Law and its influence in the professional and academic fields of Physical education.
