This is my PhD thesis. its an attempt to understand the forces that shaped the form of the Islamic traditional cities. The Islamic theory of the Basic Human Needs has its impact on the Islamic traditional cities forms. The thesis tries to understand the theory and find its applications in the contemporary urban forms. although the theory is about basic human needs, but it has never been presented as such. Maqasid Al sharia (Sharia Objectives) is the common name.
