In order to examine the effect of osmotic stress on six soybean cultivars i.e. Giza 21, Giza 22, ... more In order to examine the effect of osmotic stress on six soybean cultivars i.e. Giza 21, Giza 22, Giza 35, Giza 82, Giza 83 and Giza 111 at germination stage to salinity stress i.e. 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 dSm-1 NaCl and to confirm seedling germination to examine a range of genetic variability for salinity tolerance among soybean cultivars. A laboratory experiment was conducted at Giza Central Seed Testing Laboratory of Central Administration for Seed Certification (CASC), Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt during the period of April to June 2014. The results clearly showed that soybean cultivars significantly varied in averages of final germination percentage, mean germination time, germination index, vigor index and energy of germination. Results indicated that Giza 82 and Giza 111 cultivars exceeded other studied cultivars in germination percentage and energy of germination. Results showed that Giza 21 cultivar exceeded other studied cultivars in seedling vigor index. Moreover, Giza 35 cultivar recorded highest values of mean germination time. Results clearly showed that increasing salinity levels from 0 to15 dSm-1 significantly decreased germination percentage, germination index, and seedling vigor index. The control treatment recorded the highest averages of these characters except mean germination time. Final germination percentage, mean germination time, seedling vigor index and energy of germination significantly affected by the interaction between soybean cultivars and salinity concentrations. It could be summarized that for maximizing soybean germination characters of studied soybean cultivars under salinity stress are producing by using Giza 22 and Giza 82 cultivars These cultivars were more tolerant to salinity and recommended to use in breeding program for enhancing soybean production in newly reclaimed soils of Egypt.

Laboratory experiment was conducted at Giza Central Seed Testing Laboratory of Central Administration for Seed Certification (CASC), Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt. Germination characters i.e. final germination percentage, germination rate, germination index, energy of germination and seedling vigour index were estimated. The results indicated that highest averages of final germination percentage, germination rate, germination index, energy of germination, seedling vigor index were produced from primed seed in NaCl or KNo3. Line 168 surpassed other studied cultivars in final germination percentage, germination rate, germination index, energy of germination and seedling vigor index. Increasing salinity levels from 0 to 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 dSm-1 NaCl significantly decreased all studied characters. Results revealed that final germination percentage, germination rate, germination index and energy of germination significantly affected by the interaction between seed priming treatments and cultivars. Final germination percentage, germination rate, germination index, energy of germination and seedling vigor index significantly affected by the interaction between cultivars and salinity concentrations and by the interaction among seed priming treatments, cultivars and salinity concentrations. Priming seed of Line168 or Line 1697 using NaCl or KNo3 were more tolerant to salinity stress, which must be put in breeding program of safflower for enhancing of safflower productivity under salinity conditions for reducing the gab of oil production in Egypt.

Field experiment was conducted during 2013/2014 and 2015 seasons was aimed to evaluate productivi... more Field experiment was conducted during 2013/2014 and 2015 seasons was aimed to evaluate productivity of Rhodes and Blue panic grasses as well as Alfalfa under sprinkler irrigation with foliar application of potassium nitrate that enable plants to cope with water stress. Each two forage grasses beside alfalfa were conducted in separate experiments. Irrigation every 10 days surpassed in total chlorophyll, leaf area, plant height, number of stems/m 2 , forage green yield/fed and forage dry matter yield/fed than those irrigated every 20 days. Highest percentages of water use efficiency, crude fiber and nitrogen free extract as well as yield/fed of crude protein, crude fiber, ether extract, ash and nitrogen free extract were produced from irrigation every 7 days. However, highest percentages of crude protein, ether extract and ash were produced from irrigation every 14 days. Forage species significantly differed on total chlorophyll, leaf area/plant, plant height, average of number of stem/cm 2 , forage green yield/fed and forage dry matter yield/fed. A significant effect due to forage species on percentages of water use efficiency, crude protein and fiber, extracting ether, ash and nitrogen free extract and nitrogen free extract as well as crude fiber, extracting ether, ash and nitrogen free extract yield/fed. Sown Rhodes grass produced maximum forage green and forage dry matter yield/fed and its quality compared with other studied forage crops. Foliar spraying of potassium nitrate at 15 ppm significantly increased total chlorophyll, leaf area, plant height, number of stems/m 2 , forage green and forage dry matter yield/fed. The results showed that highest percentages of water use efficiency, crude protein, crude fiber and ether extract, and nitrogen free extract and nitrogen free extract as well as crude fiber, extracting ether, ash and nitrogen free extract yield/fed. It could be stated that irrigation every 10 days and sown Rhodes grass and foliar spraying of potassium nitrate at 15 ppm maximized forage green and forage dry matter yield/fed.
