this article could do with some more illustrations, if anyone has any

Illustrations would be nice, or photos. Also, how about some info on the Air Force service dress??

This article could do with some more information about dress uniforms outside the U.S. Isnt there a large variety of them in Europe? I know various regiments in Britain have fairly fancy ones, some with kilts even. 67.182.109.94 16:11, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See military uniform for coverage of non-US dress uniforms.

While dress uniform article needs more illustrations a photo of a Swedish naval uniform does not seem to have any relevance to the existing content.

Well...I've added a chunk of text on British Army dress uniforms, if that's any help. Actually, most of the unique colourful uniforms the British Army was known for, especially the red tunics that had been worn by infantry regiments, are history, now. Aodhdubh 00:24, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't some Canadian regiments still wear Full Dress? GG's Foot Guards etc and some Canadian Scottish regiments... 202.89.155.157 11:29, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It could also use some pictures of women in dress uniforms! Aren't there usually separate uniforms for men and women? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.36.134.169 (talk) 18:29, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Latin American dress uniforms

[edit]

The main article could be improved if there were a paragraph or two on dress uniforms in Latin America.

Were the military uniforms in the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid authentic representations of the outfits worn by the Bolivian Army? 216.99.219.135 (talk) 06:28, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The caption for the Israeli Vice Admiral at the bottom is erronous. An officer's rank is always worn on the bottom of the sleeve in the "Dress Blue" uniform. This is a standard for all navies. Shoulder boards are used on the shirt underneath and on the dress white uniform shirt and jacket. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.183.161.117 (talk) 23:59, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Who wears that stuff when?

[edit]

Do RN or Commonwealth officers change into that uniform everyday before entering the mess, to take the normals meals or just on certain occasions?--109.91.72.35 (talk) 00:29, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank goodness this article tells me how to convert words into acronyms... "Battle Dress (BD)", "Battle Dress Uniform (BDU)". I don't think I ever could have survived life without knowing the obsession people have with acronyms. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.76.189.147 (talk) 05:44, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved as requested per the discussion below. The history of the merged article is now at Full dress uniforms and the talk discussion mentioned below is at Talk:Full dress uniforms. Dekimasuよ! 22:25, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dress uniformFull dress uniformFull dress uniform has now been merged with this article. However, conversely, the more suitably the final merged article name would be full dress uniform, in line with discussion as seen on Talk:Full dress uniform (inheriting its wikilinks). Perhaps this could even be a technical request if none minds. Chicbyaccident (talk) 18:52, 20 December 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. Calidum 05:43, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain your rational here? I’m not seeing what you are going for on the other page. Garuda28 (talk) 13:08, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Equivalence with mess dress uniform, and service dress uniform. Instead of alternative dress uniform, this article should be full dress uniform per both equivalence with forementioned as well as per WP:PRECISION. Chicbyaccident (talk) 20:07, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please note: This is pretty much almost a simple technical rename request. The issue is arguably already pretty much settled in the preexisting Talk:Full dress uniform for this topic. Chicbyaccident (talk) 12:27, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Varying examples of U.S. "dress blues"?

[edit]

Do all variants of ther U.S. "dress blues" pertain to the dress code "full dress", thus full dress uniform? Are there no ones that in in fact more ressemble service dress uniforms? If so, should that be made clearer or even some contents moved to service dress uniform? PPEMES (talk) 14:03, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The US Army dress blues should be in service dress (they're described as service uniforms in Army regs). That said, as far as I'm aware, the US Army did have full-dress uniform, but that was all pre-World War I (plus present select units here and there, so US Army content should be on that). So I'd support moving the Army and USAF blue dress content to the service dress article (also during the move the US Army part should probably be updated, cause their service uniforms are changing to Army greens in the next year). But the US Navy do have a ceremonial full dress (which includes a variant of dress blues). Leventio (talk) 19:16, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Leventio: Thanks for the feedback! Would you mind going ahead and update this article acordingly? Saving for the reservations you made, as well as at least the U.S. honour guards do which indeed seem to wear full dress uniforms, if those were not included in your reservations? PPEMES (talk) 20:04, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So I updated the content to reflect the service's full dress/ceremonial uniforms. That said, I didn't move the service uniform content to the service uniform article, as it seemed to be more of a general article, with lists to more specific national articles. That said, I have the removed service dress content saved so if you wanted it to be moved to that article, I can do that. Leventio (talk) 09:22, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! As for service dress uniform, why don't you proceed with including said contents there despite no other country details are listed yet per WP:NOTFINISHED? While you're at it, you may as well want to evaluate doing the same thing with the Israel section in this article? PPEMES (talk) 11:05, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Alrighty then. I added the service uniform content into that article. With regards to Israel, most of the Israeli content appears to be "service dress," but there is some bits there that that is probably more relevant here (they do have a "dress uniform" thats based off the service dress). That said, I can't find a reliable English source describing either uniforms (I'd imagine that reliable sources would be in Hebrew), so to be honest, I really can't do that move with confidence that I'm moving the right content. Leventio (talk) 20:59, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I moved it. Later additions here can be done when available sources backing full dress uniform equivalence surface. PPEMES (talk) 21:10, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. Leventio (talk) 01:42, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just a heads up, but I pilfered through the Israeli content, and I moved around the relevant content to their articles. Leventio (talk) 06:05, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Full dress and mess dress uniforms

[edit]

I have made a few amendments to the lede section of this article, where there appears to be some confusion between full dress and mess dress. The former generally refers to parade ground or other ceremonial attire and is quite distinct from the evening or mess dress worn for dinners, weddings, dances etc. Accordingly bow ties, dress shirts etc, while often part of the uniform for social occasions, would not be seen as part of full dress as defined in most modern armies and illustrated in this article. United Kingdom section Royal Marines

[edit]

That section so far, only covers Number 1 Full Dress worn by the band. It would be helpful if the first line made it clear that the rest of the RM has Number 1A Regimental Blues Dress - 'Blues'. The text about Full dress could then be a separate paragraph in that section. --Dreddmoto (talk) 18:06, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
