Problem with release date

edit

SCS Software announced that the release date is speculation of distributors and dealers. He announced that there is no release date. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevyn.51f (talkcontribs) 13:52, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Process for when a new truck is announced.

edit

I've noticed that when SCS officially announces a new truck (and basically says what it is) it isn't usually added until after it was put into the game. I think we should develop some sort of process for when a new truck gets announced to add it to the page (I can help since I own the game and therefore get the SCS announcements on Steam). I would like to know what you guys' ideas are on this Blaze Wolf &#124 Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 14:17, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of updates and what they added

edit

So.. despite being similar games and part of the same series, the page for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has a list of all the updates and what they added... and yet the page for American Truck Simulator makes no mention of any updates. Would it be wise to add what each update added or no? Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 17:46, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

They should probably be removed from Euro Truck Simulator 2, unless backed by commentary from reliable secondary sources. WP:NOTCHANGELOG and WP:VGSCOPE #10. -- ferret (talk) 18:01, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Alright. I will do that. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 02:08, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Improving the flow

edit

Hello! So there is one big issue with the Trucks section of the article (besides there not being many sources) and that is flow. The section has sentences that don't really flow into each other all that well. For example, "On 30 September 2020, the Western Star 49X was added to the game, about one day later after its real-world unveiling. On 2 December 2020, the Freightliner Cascadia was added to the game," this reads more like a list stating when each truck was added into the game and what truck it was. The first part of the section seems to have the flow down pretty well (especially after I did a copy edit to it), however the rest of the section doesn't. Any ideas on what we could do to improve the flow? Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) (Stupidity by me) 16:41, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

It'll always read like Wikipedia:Proseline. I'd recommend replacing it with div columns of additions. That's if it's warranted and covered by secondary sourcing. -- ferret (talk) 16:50, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ferret: Might I ask what "div columns of additions" means? Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) (Stupidity by me) 18:26, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
{{columns-list}} or {{div-col}}. It's an easy way to build columned lists. -- ferret (talk) 18:43, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ah ok! Thanks ferret! I should be able to find secondary sourcing for the addition of the trucks in the game since when one is announced, reliable game sources tend to talk about it's addition (although I could be wrong since I haven't checked yet). "Western States"

edit

Hello again! So in the article it mentions the western states, however we have started to move out of the west and into the midwest. Should we change the wording in the States section to reflect this or should we keep it as is because midwest could technically be argued as still being part of the western US. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) (Stupidity by me) 20:03, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

In particular response to your edit note on Wyoming and Colorado: Western United States. Both states are considered "western" by the government and I'd say by the general populace. -- ferret (talk) 20:06, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ah ok. I've always known Wyoming and Colorado as being on the edge of the Midwest, but it appears I'm wrong! However, when SCS Software does eventually start adding Midwestern States (such as Nebraska and Texas) should we mention them as being Midwestern states? Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) (Stupidity by me) 20:18, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sure, since they are. Assuming it has actual relevance to the game (and is pointed out in sourcing). If the sources are just saying "State abc was released" then it's not really necessary. -- ferret (talk) 20:19, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Alright! Thanks again ferret! Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) (Stupidity by me) 20:20, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Update to DLC map required

edit

As Wyoming is now on sale, and Texas has been announced as the next state, we need to update the map of state DLC's to reflect both states new status. 2600:6C5A:17F:FF1E:88BC:B5D1:658C:E3B1 (talk) 05:47, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry, I've already let the user in charge of the map know that it needs to be updated. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) (Stupidity by me) 13:15, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing, I updated the map the other day. Sorry, if it was later than expected! Mandula (talk) 19:44, 23 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
hi 207.62.43.249 (talk) 19:50, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Montana's now been released too. Mr Larrington (talk) 17:37, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Montana is out now, so you can change Montana's status from "In Development" to "Available". TheLimeBoi (talk) 11:33, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@TheLimeBoi: @Mr Larrington: Unfortunately I have to wait on Mandula to update the map as I do not have the ability to update the map myself (although if Mandula tells me what they use to update it then I will assist them in updating it). ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:41, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
An editor has just ripped half the article out, including the map ... although I've got ask, why is it that only one editor can update the map? Fanx (talk) 19:41, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Fanx: The reason was I didn't know what software the user used to update the map. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 20:14, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK. I wondered if it was something more complex - like a proprietary image. As it's just a very simple .png file, editing it can be as simple as a few clicks in Microsoft Paint. In any event, a non-consensus edit has removed a map (again), along with half the article ... which doesn't appear to be particularly beneficial. Fanx (talk) 23:27, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
As I've mentioned in the edit summary, Wikipedia is not a WP:GAMEGUIDE, or WP:CATALOG. Listing every single piece of DLC, including trucks and states, is unnecessary regardless, but it was almost entirely primary sourced. It's suitable for a dedicated wiki or fansite. I don't believe a map is necessary either. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 23:40, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
What you do or don't believe about content isn't the point though. What is of importance is that you don't seem to believe in consensus. If you think there's a case for major cuts, then discuss them properly, and not in an edit summary. Wikipedia is a collaborative project, not your personal site, and achieving consensus is paramount - and your personal vendetta against maps is noted. Fanx (talk) 00:00, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry, I don't believe in consensus, because there was 14k of characters of primary sourced gameguide material? I am being bold and I've pointed to relevant guidelines. There is a clear consensus: content like that is not suitable for Wikipedia. AND BOY HOW DO I HATE MAPS!!!!!!! [sarcasm]
I have been on Wikipedia half my life. I know what consensus means. I frequent WT:VG often to check in with others. Feel free to come up with a counter argument of some kind! soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 00:22, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sarcasm aint sarcasm though - not when it's a fact. You aren't bold, when you're edit-warring ... you're just being disruptive, as usual. And I don't think that your claim that you've lived here half your life has any relevance whatsoever. Fanx (talk) 11:44, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
What a strange and uncivil response. Sarcasm aint sarcasm though - not when it's a fact. What is "a fact" here? That I have a "vendetta" against maps? That would be your opinion, not a fact. You aren't bold, when you're edit-warring I am edit warring? After my bold edit, it hasn't been edited at all. You can check the history. That is what is called a fact, because it can be independently verified. you're just being disruptive, as usual That is a rude remark and vague. I am being disruptive? I don't recall interacting with you before. We disagree. Let's keep it to the discussion, shall we? you've lived here half your life I said have been on Wikipedia half my life, never said I lived here. That would be a very odd thing to say. And I brought it up because I am an experienced editor and try to establish consensus. I have cited guidelines and nobody has challenged my bold edit. If you disagree, start discussing the content of the article and stop complaining. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 16:22, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
"That would be your opinion, not a fact." You admitted as much, and it's in your history. "I don't recall interacting with you before." So, your recollections fail you - that's a 'you' problem though. "I said have been on Wikipedia half my life, never said I lived here." Weird flex though. Turns out I've been here just as long, but I doubt I've ever used that fact to claim some sort of meaningless authority. "... nobody has challenged my bold edit" just what are we talking about then? "After my bold edit, it hasn't been edited at all", and that's not going to be me, given our history. "I am being disruptive?" Yea, you're the sort of disruptive editor that drives others away, and that diminishes Wikipedia ... imho, of course. Fanx (talk) 21:50, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
You are a very rude individual and wish no longer to have any interaction with you whatsoever. I have left a message at WT:VG asking for additional input. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 08:06, 3 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Likewise Fanx (talk) 23:56, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Soetermans is correct here. This is pure WP:GAMEGUIDE content that belongs on Fandom, not Wikipedia. Most of it is unsourced or primary sourced. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, a list of software updates, or anything like this. If you think this content is useful, put it on Fandom. Woodroar (talk) 19:01, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

The argued about part seems to be largely unsourced or far too reliant on WP:PRIMARY sourced. A common test for figuring out what should be retained is simply looking at what third party sourcing reports upon. If third party sources don't find it important enough to include, neither should we. Sergecross73 msg me 19:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Personally I thought that map was awfully useful. A list of states in which the game is playable is no more a "game guide" than saying Hyrule is the name of the land in which The Legend of Zelda takes place. And there are maps of various versions of Hyrule on that page. I think it's a little bit sad that people decide to gatekeep what goes in and out, and purposely choose to make Wikipedia a less useful place because of their own interpretation of what constitutes a "game guide." Sonar1313 (talk) 01:09, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

You're free to go add it to a fan wiki dedicated to the game. This is a general encyclopedia, with policies and guidelines that drive what gets included. -- ferret (talk) 01:12, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kansas Teased?

edit

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1684221013?t=0h46m24s There is a new state to add to the list. Trakaplex (talk) 20:29, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I already know that, so I hope they will add Kansas DLC in development to the list. Nicholas Herak (talk) 16:50, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
