Abstract

The effect of social‐national development in the context of the current environmental crisis, particularly in the Third World is examined. The health effects of chemical pollution and environmental contamination of food are described, as well as safety evaluation of chemicals. The need for sound expertise, an enlightened leadership sensitive to control issues, and particular attention to food are stressed.
