In this work, a novel C(sp3)–C(sp2) cross-dehydrogenative-coupling method is developed to react benzoxazin-2-one derivatives with various indoles. As a result, combined use of ball milling and Fe(ii) catalysis leads to rapid coupling of 1,4-benzoxazinones with derivatives of indole. Under the conditions, derivatives of 1 couple with various indoles at room temperature to produce good yields of the desired compounds within 0.5–2 h time period. Thus, derivatives of both starting materials couple smoothly under relatively mild conditions to give good yields of 3.

ABSTRACT A series of 2,4-disubstituted derivatives of 1,5-benzothiazepines were prepared via a one-pot thia-Michael-cyclization sequence by the reaction of various 2-aminothiophenols with chalcones in ionic liquid media. The choice of the ionic liquid had a significant impact on the process. In the case of 1-octyl-3-methyl imidazolium thiocyanate ([omim]SCN), both steps took place in one pot to give substituted 1,5-benzothiazepines. However, only a simple thia-Michael addition could occur in 1-octyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride ([omim]Cl) medium. Reactions were catalyst free and could tolerate the presence of different functional groups. The workup procedure was facile and the ionic liquid could be recycled at least seven times in a row.

A one-pot room-temperature procedure is developed for an efficient reaction of 2-aminothiophenols with 2-bromoalkanoates in ionic liquid [bmim][ NO3] to obtain high yields of different benzothiazin-3-ones under base- and additive-free conditions. Products are easily separated from the reaction mixtures by Et2O extraction. Notably, condensation of the extract under reduced pressure results in precipitation of the products and, consequently, no chromatographic separation is needed. The ionic liquid can be recovered and successfully recycled into subsequent reactions without significant loss of activity.

ABSTRACT The activity coefficient at infinite dilution, has been determined for 26 solutes (alkanes, alcohols, amines, aromatics, chloroalkanes, ketones, ethers) in a newly developed dicationic ionic liquid 1,9-di(N-naphthalen-2-ylmethylpyrrolidinium)nonanebis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide ([C9(2MNPTpy)2][(NTf2)−2]) by inverse gas chromatography at four different temperatures (T = 313, 323, 333 and 343 K). Solvation interactions between solvents and solute molecules have been estimated at T = (313, 343 and 373) K using Abraham solvation parameter. The experiments were carried out at various stationary phase loadings of (5 to 18)%. The selectivity values for cyclohexane/aromatics, octane/linear alcohols, octane/polar solutions were extracted from experimental activity coefficient data at T = 313 K. Compared with other ionic liquids from the literatures, this ionic liquid can be utilized as an efficient solvent for (aromatic + aliphatic) separation.

As a result, chemoselective formation of benzoxazinones in high yields has been observed at room temperature. After the reactions and separation of the products, the IL was recovered and successfully reused in subsequent reactions without significant loss of activity.

A solventless Mannich condensation of aldehydes, amines, and terminal alkynes catalysed by 10 mol% of CuCl2 was investigated. The components were simply mixed and heated together under vacuum, without any need of solidsupport or solvent. This results in the formation of Mannich products in high yields.

ABSTRACT An efficient one-pot procedure is developed at room temperature for the reaction of 2-aminothiophenols with 2-bromoalkanoates in ionic liquid (IL) [omim][NO3], providing the corresponding benzothiazin-3-one derivatives in high yields without using any other base or additive. Products are easily obtained by simple extraction of the reaction mixtures with Et2O. In most cases, evaporation of the volatile contents leads to precipitation of the products and therefore the use of chromatographic separations is avoided. The IL is then recovered and reused in next reactions without loosing its activity. The procedure is successfully extended to the synthesis of the respective 2-carboxylate derivatives via the reaction of 2-aminothiophenols with 2-bromomalonates.

ABSTRACT Vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for ternary systems of benzene + ethylbenzene, benzene + methylcyclohexane, toluene + methylcyclohexane, toluene + 1-hexene, toluene + cyclohexane, and toluene + ethyl benzene with ionic liquid of 1-methyl 3-octylimidazolium thiocyanate [Omim][SCN], were measured using headspace gas chromatography. The temperature was set at 323.15 K. The experimental data shows that the presence of ionic liquid improves the separation factors of these systems significantly. The VLE data of ternary systems were correlated using the Non Random Two Liquid (NRTL) model with a good accuracy.

ABSTRACT This work is the continuation of our investigation into using dicationic ionic liquids (Is) as stationary phase in gas chromatography (Tabar Heydar K. Nazifi M, Sharifi A, Mirzaei M, Gharavi H, Ahmadi SH, J. Chromatographia 76 (2013) 165). In this work, the activity coefficients at infinite dilution of 23 various solutes (alkanes, aromatics, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, amines, chloroalkanes, ethers) have been measured in the two binary mixtures of ILs: 1,12-di(N-methylpyrrolidinium)dodecane-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide/1,12-di(3-methylimidazolium)dodecane-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (1:1), [C12(mpy)2]-[(NTf2)2]/[1C(12)(mim)2]-[(NTf2)2) and 1,12-di(N-methylpyrrolidinium)dodecane-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide/1,12 di(3-methylimidazolium)dodecane-tetrafluoroborate (1:1), [C12(mpy)21-1(NTf2)21/1C12(mim)21-[(BF4)2], by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) in the temperature range from 313 to 343K. The same operations were performed on the neat IL: 1, 12-di(N-methylpyrrolidinium)dodecane-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, K12(mpy)21-[(NTf2)2 I at T=313 and 323 K, in order to make a comparison between different ILs. These mixtures of dicationic ILs with different anions and the neat IL have been investigated in this study for the first time. Moreover, the solvation interactions between solvents and solute molecules at 313, 343 and 373 K have been determined via Abraham salvation parameter model (linear salvation free energy relationship [LSFER] model). The selectivities for the octane/linear alcohols, octane/polar compounds, cyclohexane/aromatics were obtained from experimental activity coefficient data at 313 K, and compared with other ILs from the literature. The result of this comparison confirms that these ILs are potentially excellent solvents for the separation of alkanes/alcohols, alkanes/polar compounds and aliphatic/aromatic mixtures.

ABSTRACT Liquid–liquid equilibria (LLE) were determined for the ternary systems of ionic liquid + alkane (hexane, heptane or octane) + benzene at T = 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. 1-Butyl 3-methylimidazolium nitrate [Bmim][NO3] or 1-methyl 3-octylimidazolium nitrate [Omim][NO3] were used as ionic liquid. The selectivities values for the ternary systems with [Bmim][NO3] are higher than [Omim][NO3]. The selectivities values show that [Bmim][NO3] is more suitable solvent for benzene extraction than [Omim][NO3]. The reliability of the LLE data was tested using Othmer–Tobias and Hand equations. The experimental data was correlated using the NRTL thermodynamic model. The results show the NRTL model can correlate the experimental data with good accuracy.
