Dragana Dimitrijević
I am Associate Professor in the Department of Classics at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. My research focuses on Cicero and investigates the relations between his orations, philosophical writings, and letters, exploring the differences between his public and private persona. I have produced the first Serbian translation of the following: Cicero's oration 'Post reditum in senatu' (2004), 'Commentariolum petitionis' (2008), and the fourth book of Cicero's 'Epistulae ad Atticum' (2013). I am currently at work on a book on Cicero's notion of nostalgia.

Summary:
Benveniste was not a typical structuralist of the late 1950s – early 1960s, because he was not indifferent to matters of linguistic change. Since its publication in 1969, his book Dictionary of Indo-European Concepts and Society (Le vocabulaire des institutions indoeuropéennes) has inspired many famous philosophers and linguists, Umberto Eco, Roland
Barthes, Jacques Derrida, et al. In this book, Benveniste argues that the Latin lexeme negotium is a calque of the Greek lexeme ἀσχολία and conveys the same senses as the Greek model – “occupation” and “difficulty”. He also argues that at a later stage the Latin negotium
became the equivalent of the Greek word πρᾶγμα (“business”). Furthermore, he says that the compound neg-otium (“the absence of leisure”) had been formed independently of the sentence negotium est. In this paper, I offer a novel explanation of the origin of the lexeme
negotium, examining the use of negotium in Plautus' comedies. Namely, I show two things: first, the verbal phrase nec-otium est (from otium est) most likely presupposes the word negotium, not vice versa; second, the Latin lexeme negotium is not a calque of the Greek lexeme ἀσχολία.
As the greatest Serbian female classicist in the first half of the 20th century and the first woman professor of Classics at the University of Belgrade, Anica Savić Rebac is one of the most interesting persons in the history of the Serbian humanities. Her life and opus have received much scholarly attention during the last decades, but there is still room for further research. In this paper, I examine Anica's lifelong pursuit of Hellas, arguing that Eros, Philia and Charmonia followed her through all her life, till the end, when finally Thanatos prevailed.

Summary: The article 'Sophocles and Horace', published in 1956, despite its modest scope, could be considered as a representative example of the research methods of Miloš N. Đurić. Using examples from ancient philosophy and literature, he tries to confront the optimistic and the pessimistic view of history and the future of humanity, and gives his preference to the former. Furthermore, in this artcle, Đurić explores the relationship between the myth of the Golden Age and the myth of Prometheus in order to make a complex mosaic of ethical and aesthetic statements. The main aim of this paper is to explore various intertextual relations between the article 'Sophocles and Horace' and other works by the same author, setting the article against the background of his life-long ethical preoccupations.

Due to the unique topic and scientific contribution of all articles, this edited volume will be of great significance for both the Serbian and the international public.
Prof. LjiljanaRadenović
Thematically, the volume incorporates responses of the real women to a variety of crises within their socio-historical setting, but also the reception of female literary characters’ crises in male philosophical thought. … The strength of the volume lies in the fact that the study of women’s responses to multiple crises articulated through the written word and philosophical thought has not been done before. For this reason, the collection is pioneering in its aims and results.
Prof. Margarita Silantyeva
… The main project of the book [is] to show how these meticulously selected female philosophers and writers have faced various crises, how those crises affected their work, and if their reflections are relevant today ... The publication explores women's role in the history of philosophy and a broad variety of crises some of the most outstanding women of western philosophy faced.
