- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 March 2022Lazarus illustrates how it is possible to use the power of visualisation and imagination for self-help. It's along the lines of self-hypnosis without the need to use hypnosis.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 July 2020Initially bought for my CBT studies, though very quickly lent itself to other areas of interest.
Particularly as I am all over the map emotionally.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imagery as the often neglected cognitive domain.
Excellent book from one of the fathers of Behavioral Therapy. Imagery is introduced as an often neglected domain when providing therapy services as traditional cognitive behavioral therapies focus on the verbal aspects of beliefs and automatic thoughts. This book introduces imagery as one of the domains that should be assessed when working with clients and then introduces several techniques for practical utility when intervening with imagery issues. Only minor critique is Dr. Lazarus implicitly emphasizes Multimodal therapy, which may need some explanation before digging into the content. Case examples and layout is easy to understand and provides clinicians or people seeking self-help in imagery a way to read over the weekend and be ready to incorporate in their life by next week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Guide to Creative Imagery from the Therapeutic Point of View
It should be noted that Dr. Lazarus was a psychotherapist, a truly exceptional psychotherapist. His use of practical imagery can lead us, as practitioners, in terms of helping those with phobias and other similar conditions. We are able to walk a client through a challenging situation in their mind in a safe and controlled environment. The results speak for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short but powerful introduction to the power of imagery
This book shows how you can use the power of your mind to visualize yourself overcoming fears and performing at a higher level. As a Hypnotherapist, I really appreciate the clarity Dr. Lazarus used to discuss and exemplify the power of the Mind's Eye - an inner resource all of us have to relax and grow.

3.0 out of 5 stars This book is informative but quite wordy and more theoretical than practical
This book is not as applicable to real life as I would have liked. It is thorough and informative but mostly theoretical. I wouldnt bother. The other book Lazarus wrote, I Can If I Want To, is excellent!
