The news of suicide by coaching student has become a common phenomenon in these days. Sometimes over ambitions on the part of parents, circumstances, in ability on the part of students, conflict between dream of students and parents expectation produces conflict. The American newspaper, The Washington Post published that more than 70 students have committed suicide in the last five years in Kota city of Rajasthan, India. It is quite evident in the report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) that the rate of these suicides is much higher than the national average of 10.6 suicides per one hundred thousand (100,000) people in 2014. According to this report the suicides are committed by hanging self, ablaze self and by jumping from the heights. From the renaissance to now, many more inventions have been patented in the area of education and curriculum like Over Head Projector, Film Projector, Epidiascope, computer and many more. But a curriculum every time facing challenges of time, place and language when renovated. The teacher has been trying to be skilled every day by filling the generation gap and gap of technology. It was expressed in University Education Commission 1948-49 (also known as Radhakrishnan Commission) that the most important and urgent reform needed in education is to transform it, to endeavour to relate it to the life, needs and aspirations of the people and thereby make it the powerful instrument of social, economic and cultural transformation necessary for the realisation of the national goals. For this purpose, education should be developed to increase, produce, achieve, social and national integration by accelerating the process of modernisation, globalisation and technocrat with cultivating social, moral and spiritual values. Therefore, to fulfil the demand of globalised education, it needs to understand the challenges of the curriculum. Curriculum Framework is a broad term used as architecture of a subject, which is applied as a guide to decorate the interior of a subject to be taught including ideas, concepts, practices and needful evolutionary teaching-learning methods. While designing National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education (NCFTE-2009), NCTE pays precious time with the help of various experts in personal and expert committees. Before the NCFTE-2009 many Curriculum Frameworks were developed to support and usher the level of school education, wherein teacher education had been the integral part of the curriculum. After the studies and recommendations of National Education Commission (1964–66), NPE-1968, NPE-1986, Chattopadhyaya Committee Recommendations (1983–85), The Curriculum for The Ten Year School: A Framework (1975), NCESE-1988), National Curriculum Framework for Secondary Education (NCFSE-2000), National Curriculum Framework (NCF-2005), NCFTE (Draft for Discussion) 2006, NCFTE (Draft for Discussion) 2009, finally (National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education) NCFTE-2009 were prepared to implement the teacher education. Quality in education is a major concern as it is a complex phenomenon and is difficult to measure. Higher education in India is in such a phase where quality has to play a vital role. Present paper focuses on the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM) in higher education. It discusses the need of Total Quality Management (TQM) in higher eduction and also the challenges and issues related to Total Quality Management (TQM) in Higher Education with special reference to Indian Education System. Major challenges identified are poor curriculum design, lack of funds and resources, resistance of employees towards change etc. The paper concludes with suggestion to think of suitable models for total quality management in higher education.
