Barbaras). Using differences such as the Same–the Other or chronos–kairos, it focuses on the transcendence of beauty in mathematical entities and on the analyticity–syntheticity of mathematics. The goal of the study is to show that the beauty cannot be totalized since it transcends its mythical-poetical dimension (eros) as well as mathematical-logical dimension (logos). The non-negligible conditions of beauty (and mathematics) are embedded in life, freedom, blurring the boundaries and disintegration of constrained ratios or relations.

Not until modern geometry were shapes replaced by space. In this article I deal with the late thought of Petr Vopěnka: the return to shapes, intuition and his reflection of the history of mathematics in connection with phenomenological philosophy. I point to how, in his approach, shape conveys that which is beyond the horizon. Last but not least, I explore the relation of the mathematical and of shape to the phenomenality of the face, body and the other.

First, the introduction of mathematization, origins of mathematics and geometry is depicted on the philosophical background of Husserl’s phenomenology as one possible interpretation of space. Further, Kant’s ideas on mathematics and space are summarized. The motivations of Gauss’ differential geometry exemplify the revolution in mathematics in 19th century. In conclusion Kantian motives of space in Gauss’ differential geometry as the intrinsic geometry of a curved surface are shown.

Police knihoven a databanky zejí prázdnotou. Jak lze sémiotiku zachránit? Naštěstí Holmesovi pomohl Mycroft, aby společně vystopovali a zrekonstruovali co možná největší část teoretického obsahu moderní sémiotiky. Monografie přivádí čtenáře k místům, kde je možné sledovat znamení, znak, symbol, signifikaci či význam. Pojetí znaku a významu, o jehož rekonstrukci usiluje, není neměnné a obecné; přihlíží k rozmanitým případům a historickým místům, kde znakové teorie nalézá a testuje vzhledem k současným koncepcím.

In the first part, it presents the history of fundamental notions and result of topology, and is based on Petr Vopěnka's lectures at the Charles University in Prague in the 1960s. All the propositions, theorems and results are considered from the point of view based on ``evidence''. The presentation ends in the 1960s, just before the time of Cohen's proof of the independence of the Continuum Hypothesis and the Axiom Choice and the systematic investigation of the large cardinals. In the second part, two viewpoints are presented: The first discusses the history of relevant journals and the publications of seminal papers and books that form milestones in the development of the new discpline. The second viewpoint is more classical focusing on bried presentations of the major protagonists and their work in a textbook format.

The chapter scopes reasons of birth these new mathematical streams inside Arabic culture. It describes historical overview of Arabic mathematics and two important cultural-religious motives - the phenomenon of pilgrimage and mosaics. It suggests a correspodence between the arithmetical and algebraic view of reality and religious life based on cosmological views of Islam.
