Currently the director of the Institute of Social & Economic Research (ISER). Previously the acting director of the Institute for Community Engagement (ICE), the director of the Confucius Institute at Zayed University in Dubai, an Economic Advisor at Dubai Economic Council (DEC), the Director of the Centre for Labor Market Research and Information (CLMRI) at the National Human Resource Development & Employment Authority (Tanmia), and a Professor of Economics and International Finance at the American University of Technology (Lebanon) and the UAE University (UAE). Research interests focus on economic development, socioeconomic aspects of developments, macroeconomics, international finance, labor economics, migration, applied econometrics and statistics. I have an extensive research experience in UAE and Gulf economies on macroeconomic and sectors levels as well as on related issues such as population, education, human development. The purpose of this study is to investigate developments in migration, migration policies and population trends in the country, including trends that concern the dura-tion of migrants’ stay. We also identify some of the major strategies used by migrants to pro-long their sojourn in the UAE. It is maintained that the migrant stock has increased continuously in the last decades and that a large number of migrants devise strategies to con-tinue their residence and remain in the country for years.
