Since I was a little girl I was fascinated from birds and specially from their voices. So I began to watch them and learned their names and voices very fast and very alone. When I was fourteen, my parents decided that it was too dangerous for a girl always to move alone through forest and moor and I was forced to stop. Lateron life came with studying twice, with professional work and having a family and I wasn't really active in birding for very long, though birds were always in my mind and my ears.

Then my old dream to visit the tropical rainwood came true. I was fascinated from the sounds of cicadas, birds and Gibbons in Taman Negara, Malaysia, and began to live my old passion again. First I recorded with a small Portable MiniDisc Recorder (MZ-NH1) and a little stereo microphone to plug in directly, both from Sony. Then I recorded with an Olympus LS-10 fieldrecorder and the Røde microphone NTG-2.

Now, since years, I use the fieldrecorder LS-100 from Olympus and, for longtime recordings, the Zoom H6 Handy Recorder. With these I use two directional microphones: Røde NTG-3 and Sennheiser MKH 70 P48 (mostly), and the MS-Stereo microphone audio-technica BP4027. I decided not to use Parabolic microphones because birds always sing in the midst of others around them and I prefer to hear and record bird voices even with their background. I work on my recordings with an older Cubase-Le software from Steinberg plus bx-cleansweepV2, and with Audacity, specially to look for sonagrams.

The more I listen to birds the more I am convinced that they have magnificent musical abilitys, and so I am very interested in their individual motives, in imitations and dialects. I produce CDs and with them detailed booklets in a popular scientific way, organizing the recordings as birding walks through special biotopes (landsberg.lbv.de - Vogelstimmen-CDs). Naturally I work in nature conservation and give lectures and guidances about birds and their voices. In last time for special events I compose recordings of mine to little 20-minutes-pieces of music (birds, insects, amphibiens) which musicians like to company with their instruments. I recorded in Malaysia (Taman Negara) and the rain woods of Costa Rica and in different regios of Germany, Helvetia and Northern Italy. But mostly I record in the pre-alpine Bavaria where I live.
