Existing knowledge systems incorporate knowledge retrieval techniques that represent knowledge as... more Existing knowledge systems incorporate knowledge retrieval techniques that represent knowledge as rules, facts or a hierarchical classification of objects. Knowledge representation techniques govern validity and precision of knowledge retrieved. There is a vital need to bring intelligence as part of knowledge retrieval techniques to improve existing knowledge systems. Researchers have been putting tremendous efforts to develop knowledge-based system that can support functionalities of the human brain. The intention of this paper is to provide a reference for further research into the field of knowledge representation to provide improved techniques for knowledge retrieval. This review paper attempts to provide a broad overview of early knowledge representation and retrieval techniques along with discussion on prime challenges and issues faced by those systems. Also, state-of-the-art technique is discussed to gather advantages and the constraints leading to further research work. Finally, an emerging knowledge system that deals with constraints of existing knowledge systems and incorporates intelligence at nodes, as well as links, is proposed.

Most of the sensor network applications need real time communication and the need for deadline aw... more Most of the sensor network applications need real time communication and the need for deadline aware real time communication is becoming eminent in these applications. These applications have different dead line requirements also. The real time applications of wireless sensor networks are bandwidth sensitive and need higher share of bandwidth for higher priority data to meet the dead line requirements. In this paper we focus on the MAC layer modifications to meet the real time requirements of different priority data. Bandwidth partitioning among different priority transmissions is implemented through MAC layer modifications. The MAC layer implements a queuing model that supports lower transfer rate for lower priority packets and higher transfer rate for real time packets with higher priority, minimizing the end to end delay. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated with varying node distribution.

This means a better mode of intelligence had to be infused into networking for smoother operations and better autonomic features. Cognitive networks are defined and analyzed in this angle. They are identified to have the potential to deal with the future user related quality and efficiency of service at optimized levels. The cognitive elements of system like perception, learning, planning, reasoning and decision forming can enable the systems to be more aware of their environment and offer better services. These approaches are expected to transform the mode of operation of future networks.

In most cases, for such requirements, images are merged at intensity level. Even though it gives fairly good perception of combined scenario of objects and scenes, it is found that they are not sufficient enough to analyze certain engineering cases. The main problem is incoherent modulation of intensity arising out of phase properties being lost. In order to compensate these losses, combined phase and amplitude merge is demanded. We present here a method which could be used in precision engineering and biological applications where more precise prediction is required of a combined phenomenon. When pixels are added, its original property is lost but accurate merging of intended pixels can be achieved in high quality using frequency domain properties of an image. This paper introduces a technique to merge various images which can be used as a simple but effective technique for overlapped view of a set of images and producing reduced dataset for review purposes.

This paper presents a study which shows that intensity level merge is not sufficient enough to analyse certain cases where sharp precision is needed to take a crucial decision. A method has been presented here which could be used in precision implant engineering and biological applications like stent placement where more accurate prediction is required of a combined phenomenon. Accurate merging of intended pixels can be achieved in high quality using frequency domain techniques for geometrical and geographical suitability assessment and visualization of post stenting situation. This paper introduces a technique to merge various images and demonstrates how a surgeon can determine critical midpoint alignment of stent and visualize the effect of a transplant before actually doing that.

Segmentation carried out using seeded region growing technique has become popular because of its ability to involve the knowledge of anatomical structures in seed creation and selection process [13]. In this paper two different algorithms are carried out to build the regions of anomaly. This paper has implemented a 4 neighbor and a 8 neighbor region growing technique and observed that 4 neighbor approaches tend to fail to reach the actual boundary of the anomalous shape in certain cases. It calls for the extra care needed in generating approaches for such regions of interest for further research. It was also investigated that how a semi adaptive approach is using region mean to modify the threshold.

There has been a considerable advance in computing, to mimic the way in which the brain tries to ... more There has been a considerable advance in computing, to mimic the way in which the brain tries to comprehend and structure the information to retrieve meaningful knowledge. It is identified that neuronal entities hold whole of the knowledge that the species makes use of. We intended to develop a modified knowledge based system, termed as Informledge System (ILS) with autonomous nodes and intelligent links that integrate and structure the pieces of knowledge. We conceive that every piece of knowledge is a cluster of cross-linked and correlated structure. In this paper, we put forward the theory of the nodes depicting concepts, referred as Entity Concept State which in turn is dealt with Concept State Diagrams (CSD). This theory is based on an abstract framework provided by the concepts. The framework represents the ILS as the weighted graph where the weights attached with the linked nodes help in knowledge retrieval by providing the direction of connectivity of autonomous nodes present in knowledge thread traversal. Here for the first time in the process of developing Informledge, we apply tenor computation for creating intelligent combinatorial knowledge with cross mutation to create fresh knowledge which looks to be the fundamentals of a typical thought process.

ILS works with information from multiple domains stored in distributed way in the autonomous nodes termed as Knowledge Network Node (KNN). Along with the concept under consideration, KNNs store the processed information linking concepts and processors leading to the appropriate processing of information.

In this paper, we put forward the strategies for knowledge embedding and retrieval in an ILS. ILS is a powerful knowledge network system dealing with logical storage and connectivity of information units to form knowledge using autonomous nodes and multi-lateral links. In ILS, the autonomous nodes known as Knowledge Network Nodes ( KNN)s play vital roles which are not only used in storage, parsing and in forming the multi-lateral linkages between knowledge points but also in helping the realization of intelligent retrieval of linked information units in the form of knowledge. Knowledge built in to the ILS forms the shape of sphere. The intelligence incorporated into the links of a KNN helps in retrieving various knowledge threads from a specific set of KNNs. A developed entity of information realized through KNN forms in to the shape of a knowledge cone.

However, there is no system at hand that can match the diversified abilities of human knowledge base. In this position paper, we put forward a theoretical model of a different system that intends to integrate pieces of knowledge, Informledge System (ILS). ILS would encode the knowledge, by virtue of knowledge units linked across diversified domains. The proposed ILS comprises of autonomous knowledge units termed as Knowledge Network Node (KNN), which would help in efficient cross-linking of knowledge units to encode fresh knowledge. These links are reasoned and inferred by the Parser and Link Manager, which are part of KNN.

Invention of computer was primarily aimed to provide the basic computational functionalities. Tremendous developments in the field of computation have facilitated research in many other fields, computational brain modelling being the upcoming one. Various brain modelling projects have been initiated during the last few decades which aim at simulating the neuronal behaviour of the brain neurons. The human brain which constitutes approximately 1011 neurons and 1015 synapses on each neuron make it a very complex structure. On- going research aims at providing an insight into the underlying cause of various neurological disorders. In addition, the combined research in the field of computer science and neuroscience have endowed path to build a computational structure analogous to the brain cognitive processing to provide for intelligent information processing. This article provides insight at high level, over the objectives and the foremost working principles of the leading on-going brain modelling projects to uncover the secrets behind the efficiency of brain functioning.
