How to Find Your Face Shape

Finding your face shape is a piece of cake! All you need is a mirror (or phone camera), a measuring tape, and a bit of detective skills. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Measure from the center of your hairline to the bottom of your chin with the tape measure. This will be your face length.
  2. Measure from temple to temple (right to left). This is the width.
  3. If you’d prefer not to use actual numerical measurements, use lipstick or a washable marker to trace the outline of your face (with your hair pulled back) on the mirror. Then, ask yourself what shape it matches best.

Based on your measurements, you have a(n)…

  • Heart face shape if your forehead is the widest part of your face and your chin is pointed.
  • Square face shape if the distance between your temple and jawline are the same.
  • Round face shape if your cheekbones are the widest part of your face.
  • Diamond face shape if you have a narrow hairline and high cheekbones.
  • Oval face shape if your forehead is only slightly wider than your chin.
  • Rectangle face shape if your forehead, cheeks, and jawline are the same width.
  • Triangle face shape if the width of your forehead and cheekbones is long while your chin is narrow and pointed.
