References

[edit]

Hi Poornima7, the statements you have been adding to films all look good, well done. I just want to mention one thing though. We cannot reference information to Wikipedia, because Wikipedia will be using the information here so this leads to "circular referencing" (see en:WP:CIRCULAR). For example on The Imitation Game (Q14918344) I have changed the reference to use imported from Wikimedia project (P143) and Wikimedia import URL (P4656) instead. Hope that makes sense. By the way have you seen the film? I thought it was great. MSGJ (talk) 19:38, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MSGJ I understood your point :we can't use reference URL(P854) directly while dealing with Wikidata items because it causes circular referencing. We should rather use imported from Wikimedia project (P143) and Wikimedia import URL (P4656). Am I right, or still missing on a concept here? Poornima7 (talk) 21:18, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, The Imitation Game (Q14918344) is one of my favourite movies! Poornima7 (talk) 21:18, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Outreachy

[edit]

Hi. I’m sending this to all applicants of the 'Synchronising Wikidata and Wikipedias using pywikibot’ Outreachy project (phab:T276329). Thanks for all your contributions so far! You can continue sending contributions until the Outreachy deadline. If you haven’t already, please submit your contributions to Outreachy, and you might want to start writing your application if you haven’t already (the deadline is next week!) You can do so here. Also, the project has had a lot of interest, and there is only one place available, so I strongly encourage you to also submit contributions and applications to other Outreachy projects as well to increase your chances of doing an Outreachy internship! (Again, I’m saying this to all applicants.) Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 09:43, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reminder Mike, it was very generous of you. I was just curious about the selection process since so many applicants were interested in this project. Considering which criteria will the mentors select an intern?
Thank you for your time, and I really enjoyed learning about Wikidata, Wikipedia and Pywikibot. It felt like actually knowing what's happening behind the scenes! You guys have been exceptional mentors. More to learn! --Poornima7 (talk) 10:37, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. :-) The selection is based on the completed tasks and the application. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 14:50, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thank you! --Poornima7 (talk) 18:13, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for applying for my project on Outreachy. I’m sorry that you weren’t selected - there were so many good candidates and the final decision was very tough! I hope you’ve learnt a lot during the contribution stage of the project! I also hope that you’ll think about continuing to contribute to Wikipedia and Wikidata, there’s a lot that can be done both manually and using pywikibot! In particular, see Wikipedia:Bot requests here on Wikidata, and also on a lot of different language Wikipedias - some of whom are really in need of bot editors! If you are interested, feel free to ask me for help as you need! Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 12:09, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mike, I'm really sorry to have noticed this message only today. I was a little disheartened when the interns were announced, but the ultimate goal is to contribute to open source and work in a community, Outreachy was merely a means to dive into it. Due to some unavoidable reasons, my link with FOSS broke down since April 2021, but now, I'm again ready to get into it and learn a lot. Thankyou so much for being an amazing mentor; I surely did learn a lot from you! It was a wonderful month, with tons of ups and downs. Hoping to contribute to Wikimedia and Wikipedia in the future. Thanks. --Poornima7 (talk)
