May I ask you a question ?

How did you add the chinese link for 比馬文 火焱焱 (talk) 08:02, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Diff/1816377025 has tag "Sitelink Change from Connected Wiki", meaning I made the change on zhwiki, as described in zh:Help:跨语言链接#新页面.—HTinC23 (talk) 10:22, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lilioceris cheni

[edit]

Hello, just thought I'd let you know, I noticed you added the statement named after (P138) Chen Wenlong (Q115770049) to Lilioceris cheni (Q20720924) in December last year. However, I'm pretty sure the correct person the species is named after is most likely Chen Shixiang (Q8287744), who named a number of species of leaf beetles. Unfortunately, I cannot prove this right now, as I cannot access the original article that the species was named in except in Google Books Snippet View form: [1] (I tried search terms "Lilioceris cheni" and "S. H. Chen" in the book, but that doesn't help enough). I also notice that Chinese Wikipedia links Chen Wenlong (Q115770049) and Lilioceris cheni (Q20720924), but unfortunately I cannot fix these if it turns out I am right, as I do not know Chinese. Monster Iestyn (talk) 03:00, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this. I added that statement because the zhwiki article zh:陳文龍 (臺灣) (Chen Wenlong (Q115770049)) has a sentence that says the Chinese names of Kibakoganea formosana (Q14904045) (文龍角金龜, not from the translation of formosana), Perissus wenroncheni (Q14814765) (文龍氏矮虎天牛), Dicronocephalus yui cheni (陳氏角金龜), and Lilioceris cheni (Q20720924) (陳氏長頸金花蟲) were named after him. The citation is a news article "陳文龍紀念館 展現蝴蝶王事蹟" (You can find some copies online but no longer on the original publisher United Daily News (Q697153)'s website) and the news article attributed this statement to Maolin National Scenic Area (Q15911103) Headquarters, so it is plausible to me. Of course it could still be that the news article somehow got it wrong but I think we do need to check. I have no access to Pacific Insects Monograph either.—HTinC23 (talk) 11:13, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks for informing me! So there is a source for that information, but it could be wrong... In that case, I've just sent an email to the person managing http://hbs.bishopmuseum.org/pim/ to see if that volume of Pacific Insects Monograph can be made available online (oddly, volume 1B has been available online for years, but not 1A which is what we want here). That way we'd be able to see for ourselves who the species was named for, and therefore whether the news article was wrong or not. Monster Iestyn (talk) 16:26, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've been told it's not been digitized by them yet, and they're not sure when they'll scan it... Oh well. Monster Iestyn (talk) 20:35, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Bovlb. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Q99705554 because it didn't appear constructive. Feel free to use the sandbox for test edits. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!  Bovlb (talk) 19:31, 18 January 2024 (UTC) --Bovlb (talk) 19:31, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bovlb: I’m terribly sorry and thanks for spotting this! I must have clicked a button by mistake. User:Magnus Manske/wikidata useful.js lists several occupations on the page and if you click any of them, it adds the statement immediately, which is quite convenient, but there is no confirmation and no notification on success. There was another time when I made the same mistake (my trackpad uses tap-to-click so a mistap happens sometimes) but was aware, which I immediately self-reverted, but this one really has slipped through… apologies again. —HTinC23 (talk) 21:19, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
