Wales came into being around 4thc, more or less the same geographical borders as it is now, and same language spoken as we speak today (Cymraeg). It had it's kings and princes, even before the 4thc. Please do not state that it is part of the United Kingdom, for 'Cymru' refers to this nation for at least the last 1600 years - 1,400 years before the 'United Kingdom' came into existence. - instance of (P31) therefore needs country (Q6256) for at least until the Act of Union as country of citizenship (P27) = Wales (Q25) has constraints e.g. The country of birth of all people born in Wales pre Act of Union = Wales (until then a full Nation, with full international and sovereign status. Changing the rank of "instance of" "constituent country of the United Kingdom" for Wales
[edit]Hi. Scotland, Northern Ireland and England all have "constituent country of the United Kingdom" as a preferred rank. This behavior makes it so that if we search for countries, we don't find them. Q25 doesn't have this rank specified so it would be nice to change it for uniformity. I can't do it as the page is semi-protected. Thanks. --Sifalot (talk) 23:58, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
- Wales is a country first (apolitical) and 'constituent country' second; it was 'annexed' to England by the sword (like Ireland), and only in the last few years has it been termed 'constituent country of the UK', which is very political. Do you suggest the National Football Team of Wales changes its name to National Football Team of Wales (constituent country of the United Kingdom)? Officially, as decreed by English law, it certainly isn't defined as such! Uniformity? - I'd change the others. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 13:07, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Mattythewhite: Your revert needs to be addressed: first of all, the above thread is the discussion which you say doesn't exist; second, you say that my edit is causing issue at P1532 - can you explain further what the problem is? For Wales to be a country within, outside, below, on top of or any other way is a description based on one fact, that Wales is a country, and that statement needs to come first, have more weight, be the preferred rank. All else is dependable on that statement. Lastly, Wales has existed as a country for well over a thousand years. Wales has been annexed to England, by England as a constituent country of the United Kingdom (sic) for just over 60 years, and is not stated anywhere in law; else it needs changing to the correct wording, 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'.
