We need to iron out what belongs here and what belongs under Q133163. The two are not quite synonymous. Given that the profession, Percussionist, refers to a performer who plays an entire instrument family, there should be an appropriate mapping of these concepts. Percussion is somewhat unusual in this regard.
So a percussion instrument brings to mind a specific instance, such as woodblock or glockenspiel. Whereas percussion brings to mind the multi-instrumental family as a whole. Percussion is the appropriate word to use when talking about general instrumentation. Mariefrance (talk) 19:43, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
It is very common in a statement of medium of performance to fairly generically denote "percussion" when a part generally calls for the player to use multiple percussion instruments. In a statement of instrumentation it would often be more useful and practicable to state "percussion" than name the whole collection of instruments the performer(s) is required to play.--Jsoenyun (talk) 00:46, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
