drugs
[edit]in these diffs i removed a bunch of drugs that were added as treatments. garbage in, garbage out. Jytdog (talk) 22:41, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- User:Andrew Su I started this discussion here. Explain why you restored entries that are NOT TREATMENTS to a section that is called, in plain English "drug used for treatment". Jytdog (talk) 23:03, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
The problem is that editors here don't have any guidance about what sort of sources are suitable for validating medical information. As an example, there has almost certainly been mass import of databases such as ChEMBL (Q6120337) and NDF-RT (Q21008030).
This leads to the problem that ChEMBL lists one of the indications for Simvastatin (a cholesterol-lowing drug) as pneumonia,[1] yet all we have to make sense of that are primary studies such as "Statin treatment and reduced risk of pneumonia in patients with diabetes". The only secondary study is completely equivocal about any likely benefit of statins in treating pneumonia. Similarly the NDF-RT database, when examined shows Sucralfate (a treatment for stomach ulcers) "may treat Pneumonia". Yet a meta-analysis examining the possible benefit of concludes "Studies on sucralfate do not provide conclusive results".
We need to look at means of improving the nuanced information here on Wikidata before we can be comfortable in importing it into medical articles in other Wikipedias. --RexxS (talk) 23:46, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- Proposal to move discussion The Wikidata community is not large and this discussion is likely to be lost for being posted here, in this item talk space. I propose to copy/paste this text to Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Medicine and ask that the discussion continue there. What is discussed here is a bigger issue than just this item. - I put this discussion here to discuss this in WD - the discussion is well underway at WT:MED. I was trying to figure out where people discuss things here - there is a page for example for the "property" in question, drugs used for treatment and that seemed to be a good place to talk about what gets put in here. Haven't done that yet. don't know if people actually discuss things here any where. the parellel WP:MED is kind of a ghost town. Jytdog (talk) 21:36, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Treatment
[edit]Treatment has a specific meaning in the English language User:Andrew Su. Many of these are NOT treatments in the English sense of the word. Restoring this is dangerous and I fully support User:Jytdog's removal. The next issue is who is going to clean up the rest of the issues? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 20:26, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- agree w/ Doc James on these points(WD will not be easy to fix)--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 21:04, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- WD works well with bots so likely all they need is a bot run to fix this. As a non bot person it is not "easy" for me to fix. But I am sure it is easy for someone. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 21:17, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Akatsukis and other stuff
[edit]Please, take care of Wikidata because in Spanish lang. Wikipedia we are having some problems with the biographies. It seems that those "problems" comes from this page. Some boorish likes to vandalize this page with stupid things like: "murdered by Akatsukis" and "Se le cogió bien duro (He was fucked really hard)". --195.53.117.228 08:50, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
