Download the Arduino IDE for Visual Studio

Visual Studio 2022

Visual Studio Community is free for most users, and Visual Studio Professional and Enterprise can be purchased for business use and additional features.

Before installing Visual Micro:

• Install the English Language Pack (even if you use a different language) with Visual Studio, or from Tools > Get Tools and Features.
• The Linux development with C++ Workload can be installed at this point, or it will be prompted for when trying to open a Visual Micro Project (Learn Why Here)
• To use old format Visual Micro Projects from before Visual Micro 2.0, please also install the C++ for Desktop Workload.

We recommend that you install from within the IDE for ease the first time using "Extensions > Manage Extensions >Online" in Visual Studio.

If you have multiple Visual Studio Versions Installed, and have installation problems, set the program to Open With the VS Version Selector as below:

VS2017/2019 versions must now be directly installed from the Forum, or can be downloaded from here.

• Ensure the Embedded and IoT Development component is also selected when installing the Linux development with C++ workload.
• To use old format Visual Micro Projects from before Visual Micro 2.0, please also install the C++ for Desktop Workload.

VS2017 versions must now be directly installed from the Forum, or can be downloaded from here.

4K Monitors

Note:

The below only applies to versions before 22.02.18.2.
The registry key should no longer be required in versions after this, and can be removed again if this has been set in the past.

If you have a high resolution monitor, and scaling applied, you may experience issues with the IDE Locations screen, and the Micro Explorer windows.

One work around for this is to add the dpiAwareness key to your system, to make Visual Studio DPI Unaware:

Once applied all instances of Visual Studio will need to be restarted for this to take effect.

We are working on this element and we will update this page when this issue has been resolved without the need for the registry key.
