the judge from hell / ep14.

the title drop !!! what a way to end the show.
easily my favorite this year — which shouldn't be a difficult feat because i haven't watched many shows in '24 but this one, man. tjfh was such a gem of an experience and i'm going to miss them so much😭.
a detail i loved this episode was how they showed the characters from the previous cases again, as justitia sees them through a completely different lens from the one she did back then — not the lens of a cold, uncaring demon, but that of an empathetic human. all of it while still maintaining her sassy demon self — the only thing that has changed is the way she views humans, the way she has warmed up towards them, the way her love for daon has extended to all of humanity there is.
that's brilliant character development right there, and i love it.
as for the ending, i'm actually surprised because they managed to wrap it up pretty well😭. open-endings are a tricky beast, but tjfh did it in a way that feels both believable and fitting for its world and the rules that it's governed by. (and also with bael being the annoying and unpredictable spider he is, lmfao.)
they've left enough room for a season 2, but i have no complaints even if the show were to just end here — they've wrapped up the major arcs, and they've ended it at a point that isn't all too conclusive. that hits the perfect spot for me.

[id: a news story of some kind possibly in a print magazine: "A Brittish pensioner whose bland sandwhiches gained him unexpected fame in China has died. Keith Brown, a retired engineer known on Chinese social media as "Old dry Keith", became a hit when his Chinese wife Shang Jian began to post videos of him assembling the ham and cheese sandwiches he liked to eat. Chinese observers were grimly fascinated by his dry, boring sandwiches, and his gently, stoic manner - and he built up a cult following. "We go from questioning the dry old man, to understanding the dry old man, to becoming the dry old man," observed one cultural commentator. "The old man is us, and his dry lunch is our dry life." running a Tumblr blog is like having a stall at a market. You carefully set out handmade artisan goods and curated trinkets at your table. A few people will walk past your stall and offer compliments. Even rarer you might get a customer or two that actually buy your stuff.

Then after lunch you put a scrunched up napkin on the corner of your table, intending to throw it out later. Then suddenly you have hundreds of people crowded around your stall demanding to buy your used napkin.
